Meyer Kanewsky, a leading Jewish cantor of America, was born in Paltavia, Russia. At the age of nine, he was alto soloist in the leading synagogue ofPaltavia. At the age of fourteen, he went to Odessa, Russia, to sing with Cantor Rasumna, one of the greatest cantors in Russia. In Odessa, the Rev. Kanewsky studied for four years at the Conservatory of Nicholas. He held the position of leading cantor in the ; largest cities of Russia and England. In 1907, he came to the . United States to officiate as a cantor of the Hungarian Syna| gogue, Ohab Zedek. He has a brilliant, lyric tenor voice and sings in English, Hebrew, Yiddish, Russian, Italian and Ruthen ian. Cantor Kanewsky has appeared in concert with great success at the Stadium and Carnegie Hall, New York. He has sung to large audiences in the principal American cities.
