In the fall of 1917 she came under the observation of Cleofonte Campanini, General Director of the Chicago Opera Association, who immediately engaged her to sing leading contralto roles. Her success in opera wasimmediate and remarkable. The deep, rich texture of her voice, and its clarity and flexibility won for her the distinction of being that vocal rarity, a genuine contralto.
