Wild Tusker is the most peculiarly awkward material — were he Capture really on the go, one would hesitate to set up a camera in his path. The elephant loses all self-control, breaks his picket, challenges the world to come on and be smashed up, and then runs amok and begins to smash everything in sight. We had a long conference with Muthanna, and the upshot was that there was great business for the jungle men on a wooded hillside, building a camp, the camp where Kala Nag is supposed to be tethered, where he breaks away, and which he smashes up. To this camp of bamboo huts the captured tusker was led to play the part of the infuriated Kala Nag. Muthanna promised us that he was in a furious mood. Wild Tusker It was exciting. He was tethered by ropes from becomes an both hind legs to a tree and the ropes were about T ,ac °*Aor sixty feet long so that he had a good range. The question, of course, was whether or not the ropes would hold him and everything was arranged with a view to a possible accident. The cameras were not in machans where they would have been safe. The machans we had had time to build were not steady enough. So they were all fixed in a row on top of a high platform, which would come down like so much matchwood if the tusker ever got at it.
