BM-22 BETTER MANAGEMENT Preliminary plans are in progress for an 80x 120-foot, 800-seat theatre to be erected on the southeast corner of North Bend Road and Edmonston Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland. The house, which will be completely air conditioned, will be owned by the Franklin Realty Company, Baltimore. The 900-seat Greenport, Greenport, Long Island, New York, will be rebuilt at a cost of $200,000. Theatre is operated by the Prudential and Playhouse, New York. Architect: John Eberson, New York. Eastern Theatres, Inc., which is to say Lewen Pizor and Charles Segall, Philadelphia, are expected to close a deal for a site in the Frankford section of Philadelphia. A theatre is planned. It is reported that Elmore D. Heins, operator of four theatres in Roanoke, Virginia, who can be reached at the American, in that city, is having plans drawn for a new theatre. The 523-seat Adelphia, Brooklyn, New York, which is receiving extensive alterations, is expected to open soon under the name of Gem. House is operated by Morris Kutinsky. Excavation for the construction of a 1,500-seat theatre in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, which is to be equipped with all modern facilities, has been started. Owner is the Comerford-Publix Theatre Corporation, Scranton, Pennsylvania, with Charles Ryan in charge of construction. General contractor is F. J. Cuppels, Kingston, Pennsylvania. Architect: Michael DeAngelis, Philadelphia. The Messrs. Knapp, Wallace, and Door are going to build a $40,000 theatre in Tappahannock, Virginia. The Broad, Newark, New Jersey, will receive extensive alterations. Theatre is owned by the New Broad Company (a Loew’s, Inc., affiliate) . Architect: William C. Webster, New York. It is rumored that a new theatre is to be built as part of a contemplated apartment house development in Grand View Heights, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The new Callao, Callao, Virginia, is expected to open soon. House was built by Edward Cumberland, of the Mayfair, Colonial Beach, Virginia. The Paramount, New York, owned by the Hercules Theatre Corporation, with a seating capacity of 3,664, is to have alterations, including air conditioning, seats, new drapes, and interior decorating. It is rumored that a new theatre is planned for 63rd and Callowhill Streets, Philadelphia. Plans are in progress for a new theatre to seat between 800 and 1,000, to be located on Kennedy Street, between Third and Fourth Streets, Northwest, Washington. Harry Shapiro, Washington, is the owner, who has leased the theatre to Warner Brothers. Architect: John Eberson. The new 900-seat Steuben, Hornell, New York, costing about $50,000, will shortly open. House is owned by Morris Gaby and Irving Cohen, care of the Strand, Hornell. General contractor is William Adams, Hornell. Architect: William T. Spann, Buffalo, New York. The Stonehurst, Stonehurst, Pennsylvania, owned by Frank Blum, is to have general interior and exterior alterations and improvements. Architect: Thalheimer and Weitz, Philadelphia. The Rockbridge, Buena Vista, Virginia, is undergoing extensive alterations and improvements, including new seats, air conditioning and decorating. House is operated by Dan Weinberg, Bridge, Bedford, Virginia. The 5 96-seat theatre, to be erected as part of the terminal extending from 120 to 136 Park Avenue, New York, has been leased to the United, Eastern, American, Pan-American, TWA Air Lines. General contractor is the Bethlehem Engineering Corporation, New York. Architect: J. B. Peterkin, New York. Owners for the new 750-seat, $100,000 theatre to be constructed at Wilkes Avenue and County Line Road, Baltimore, Maryland, are Bill Simon and Jay Labowitz, Baltimore. The new theatre at Linden Boulevard and 219th Street, Saint Albans, Long Island, New York, is to be operated by the Interboro Circuit, Brooklyn, New York. Leo H. Hammond, operator of seven theatres in or near Baltimore, Maryland, will operate the new theatre to be built on the southeast corner of North Ben Road and Edmonson Avenue, Baltimore. Plans are in progress for a new 6 50-seat, 50x 13 0-foot theatre in Roanoke, Virginia, to be operated by Dan Weinberg, of Bedford, Virginia, Architect: Pendleton S. Clark, Lynchburg, Virginia. Joseph Nicholson has applied for a permit to build a theatre at Mount Pleasant Avenue and Emlen Street, Mount Airy, Philadelphia. The proposed Knapp-Wallace-Doer theatre, Tappahannock, Virginia, to seat 500, will cost 540,000. Architect: E. F. Sinnott, Richmond, Virginia. Plans are completed for, the new theatre in Cohoes, New York, to be built by Si Fabian, New York. Architect: John Eberson, New York. The 1,0 50-seat Embassy, Allentown, Pennsylvania, will receive $3 5,000 worth of alterations, including a huge new neon sign, marquee. Theatre name is to be changed to the Boyd. Bert Daeidev plans a new 750-seat, $50,000 theatre at Edmonston Avenue and Aldershot Street, Baltimore, Maryland.
