1939 PRESENTATION No. 3 ADELPHI Philadelphia. Pa. Regardless of the income level of a theatre's potential clientele, there is ever present appreciation of the better things in theaters. Accordingly, when the Affiliated Theatres, Inc., took over an automobile show room in West Philadelphia and transformed it into the Adelphi Theatre, under the architectural guidance of Philadelphia's David Supowitz, the potential patrons were given a cinema worthy of more than the two thin dimes (plus tax!) required at the box office. The night view (above) reveals the striking effects obtainable from the use of ivory structural glass, accentuated by a modern marquee and neon lights, and the auditorium (below) shows the beauty from simple design, with murals in contrast. Architect: David Supowitz. Phila., Pa. Owner: Affiliated Theatres Circuit, Inc.
