Stage, Screen Plan Fair Show The "Brains of Broadway” met last week in a spirited session at the New York World’s Fair 1939, adopted a number of "action” resolutions to rush plans for the Amusement Area to make it top any thing of its kind in history. Resolutions were intended, for the most part, to strenghten concessions already lined up for the Amusement Area. One of the principal resolutions called for the appointment of a committee to confer with leading magnates of Hollywood to arrange a feature which would illustrate the complete production of a motion picture, from the birth of the idea to the fanfare of the preview. Ray Johnston, president of Monogram, holds in this business. Frankly, we like to think of Ray as a man who has been a symbol of independent effort throughout his 2 5 years in the business. Ray has always been an independent; he has always worked with the independents; he has always been a firm believer in the principle of inde pendent endeavor. We subscribe to those sentiments and we hope Ray thinks along similar lines for 5 0 years to come. This might be titled W. Ray Johnston the Man, except that Ray never likes flowery tokens too much. He prefers to rest on his record — and that, to us, is sound judgment. Congratulations, Ray, on your 2 5 th anniversary. We believe we speak for the rest of the industry when we say it is good reason for an all-industry celebration. JAY EMANUEL.
