MRS. ANNA CONALLE and MRS. C. W. WICKES were in Harrisonburg. MRS. LINDA ROSENBERGER, cashier, Dalke’s New Market, was in Woodstock. "JAZZ BO” PHILLIPS was confined to his bed. LEFTY LINDAMOOD, head usher Dalke’s New Market, and ace moundsman, baseball team, has an offer to play with the Statesville Club. WILLIAM DALKE has just completed reseating the balcony of the New Market. POLLY JENKINS and her Plow Boys played all of the Dalke Houses in the valley enroute to New York. MRS. JOSIE RUBY was entertained with a birthday dinner at her home in Edinburg. Mrs. Ruby is the mother of MRS. PAUL McDANIEL, Dalkes. MIKE FRYE, Edinburg, will enter the County Golden Glove Boxing Tournament. — Frank O’Roark. Newport News "Honolulu” campaign at Paramount was featured by extensive use of newspaper teasers in advance, lavish use of throw-aways. Manager LEONARD GORDON’S campaign on "Jesse James,” Palace, included displays of "Jesse James Stories” magazines by nearby newsstands, house-to-house distribution of big four-page folders. JOHNNY MAYO, formerly attached to house staff, James, is taking a shot at the insurance business. Manager HARL WOLEVER is contributing use of Paramount for two weeks of noonday Lenten services. GLADYS LYLE, house organist, is furnishing the music. A. V. S. CLARK pepped up Saturday night business recently with a big revolving searchlight parked in front of his James, throwing a moving beam into the sky. — W. T. Pearisburg C. A. LUCAS, operator of theatres at Radford, Pearisburg, Narrows, expects to start construction of a new theatre seating 500 here soon. Radford State, closed for some time, will open in the near future under the direction of MAX KARMITZ. Building is being remodeled and renovated. Richmond BENNIE SOMMA, manager, Henrico, has a hobby, it was discovered this week. It is miniature electric trains. JOHN SIMMONS, service staff, Byrd, has accepted a position with the state library. RUTH SIKKELLEE, cashier, Bellevue, fell down in a store, was injured. DAVID KAMSKY, publicity manager. Neighborhood Theatre, attended a party in Washington given by the IRA SICHELMANS. There have been two birthday surprise parties at the home office, Neighborhood Theatres, recently. First was ANN DONATI, second for DOROTHY SHEWBRIDGE. JANE TAYLOR is back presiding over the box office at the State. AL NOWITSKY escorted MARGARET THOMAS, Florida, to the recent theatrical ball. GORDON PULLIAM, service staff, Byrd, went up in an airplane for the first time recently. After landing, he began walking around in circles; when a bootblack accosted him, politely asked if he wanted a shine, he said that he did not want a shine but would give him a dime if he would help him find his car. It doesn’t sound as funny as it looked. (Ed. Note — Yes.) CARLTON DUFFUS was in town helping ALLEN SPARROW on his "Pygmalion” campaign. As a ballyhoo for the mystic show at the National, AL NOWITSKY dressed a girl in Oriental costume, stationed her in the lobby handing out keys to the Turkish harem. Bowlers were entertained by the team of SAM BENDHEIM, JR., HAROLD WOOD, who really put on a good act over the loudspeakers at Tinytown. JOE MULLEN, manager, Bellevue, had a nice lobby display on "The Dawn Patrol.” JOHN E. CUMMINGS, service staff, State, has been appointed Captain of D Company, John Marshal High School Cadets. JOE ANTONE, son. Ponton projectionist, has been appointed Captain of F Company. AL NOWITSKY, publicity director, Wilmer & Vincent theatres, held a sneak prevue of "St. Louis Blues” at the Colonial. MERCER STILLMAN, Berio representative, visited Edenton, North Carolina. JCE BASS, Venus usher, has recovered from an attack of chickenpox. HENRY DUSMAN was down from Baltimore, visiting local accounts. Laugho of the week: That famous team of CONNOR & WILSCHKE, who have been doing quite a bit of commuting from Philadelphia in the interest of Altec, decided they would ride in a day coach last week on their way down here, because they couldn’t sleep anyway. So they both woke up in time to see the lights of Richmond fading into the horizon. Arriving in Petersburg, they taxied back to Richmond in time for their morning appointment. (Philadelphia papers please copy.) Capitol is going to play "Grand Illusion” week of March 16. House also played for two performances last week "Un Carnet de Bal,” under the auspices of the modern language department of the Richmond Public Schools. JOSEPH MULLEN, SR., father of manager, Bellevue, also foreign manager for Warner Brothers, had a narrow escape in a train wreck in Mexico. LUCY COBB hurried back from her Florida vacation to attend 10th annual theatrical ball. Old faithful, BILLY PHELPS, greeted all, BOB EANES assisting; MR., MRS. ROBERT COULTER; MR., MRS. MERVIN ULLMAN; MR., MRS. WILLIAM BALLENGER were seated at one table. EDDIE MARTIN was the only film salesman. Our old friends, WARREN CRENSHAW, wife, were there.
