BETTER MANAGEMENT BM-29 Highlights in National Tieups Highlights in Publicity Ideas Highlights in Equipment News "Flying G-Men” A nation-wide model-airplane-building contest, to be staged by exhibitors locally, is the number one exploitat.on tie-up for Columbia's newest chapter-play, "Flying G-Men.” Officially titled "The 'Flying G-Men’ Model Airplane Building Contest,” the details of the plan have been arranged by the Comet Airplane and Supply Company. Comet is offering exhibitors a specially prepared contest kit, which contains all the material, including awards, needed to conduct a local contest. The kit contains 10 prizes, including a Clipper Gas Kit, a Clipper, Jr., Kit, Aeronca "K” Kit, seven gold-wing pins. Also included are 100 entry blanks, two posters announcing the contest, a complete set of directions for conducting the contest. In addition to the contest plan, Comet is offering to exhibitors, at wholesale prices, an attractive 8J4-inch wing-span glider, imprinted with the title "Flying G-Men,” a model airplane kit which makes up a Ryan type monoplane, similar to that used in the picture. Another tie-up, this with the Lionel Company, features the Lionel Remote Control Electric Airplane. This popular plane is useful for giveaways, lobby displays, prize awards. Two other companies which are lending their support to this giant campaign are the A. C. Gilbert Company, the Colonial Company. Gilbert is offering to exhibitors their Scotland Yard Detective Kit, which contains a complete fingerprint outfit, detective gadgets, while Colonial is featuring a set of "real ’G-man’ Detectiphones.” Still another important tie-up is the "Flying GMen” game. Finally there is a special "Flying GMan” metal badge to give to the members of exhibitors’ "Junior Air Defenders.” "Love Affair” Timed with its pre-release, RKO Radio’s "Love Affair” will be advertised through national magazines on a scale practically equal to the "Gunga Din” campaign. Love and “Love Affair” will be sold to the public in copy and illustrations rcsplcndid with romance, tenderness, warmth. S. Barrett McCormick, director of advertising and publicity has prepared a campaign consisting of full bleed pages in Life, Saturday Evening Post, Collier’s Weekly and Red Book, the bleed giving the copy an added dominance. "Love Affair” copy to be in general circulation concurrent with its pre-release is scheduled for Modern Movies, Movie Life, Photoplay, Picture Play, Screen Book, Screenland, Silver Screen. "Huckleberry Finn” Book-publishing Grosset & Dunlap is bringing out a low-priced edition of "Huckleberry Finn.” Copies will be in the hands of booksellers through the U. S. about March 15. The company’s field representatives have been engaged in a concentrated sales drive to exploit this special edition in conjunction with the showings of Metro’s "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” If the exhibitor has an immediate engagement on the picture, the publishers might be able to give him advance assistance in the matter of making local book tie-ups. In this matter the exhibitor should address the company directly, at the new address of 1107 Broadway, New York City. "Ballerina” A national Ballerina contest has been arranged by the distributors of "Ballerina,” Arthur Mayer and Joseph Burstyn, in conjunction with Lentheric and Dance Magazine. A one-month all expense trip to Paris this summer is being offered by the sponsors as first prize for the best letter on the topic: "What I liked best in Ballerina — and Why.” "Young America” Rochester, New York Manager Jay Golden, RKO Palace, put on a special Saturday morning "Young America” show in cooperation with Board of Education and Democrat and Chronicle. Teachers aided by promoting the show and giving out identification cards to be used with dime for admission. Films included "Lincoln in the White House,” "Man Without a Country,” "Give Me Liberty,” "Romance of Louisiana,” "Declaration of Independence,” and "Gunga Din.” Recent Installations Boston, Massachusetts E. M. Loew’s Regent, in Arlington, Massachusetts, has been reseated; Park, East Jeffrey, New Hampshire, has been enlarged, additional seats installed; Magnet, Claremont, New Hampshire, suffering recent fire damage, has been remodeled; Saint John’s Hall, Cambridge, Massachusetts, has been reseated with Ideal Seats; Irving Isaacs’ new Telepix, Park Square Building, Boston, has new projection equipment and screen; Orpheum, New Bedford; Wakefield, Rhode Distributed by NATIONAL THEATRE SUPPLY COMPANY Branches in All Principal Cities Smart exhibitors know that it is FLIRTING WITH FATE to let patrons become tired of appointments, decorations and seating equipment that has become outmoded and even sometimes just too disgustingly familiar to the movie-going public.
