It is based on a play by George Manker Watters and Arthur Hopkins. Among the numbers heard are: “By The Way,” “What Did I Do?”, “When My Baby Smiles At Me,” “Oui Oui Marie,” “Birth Of The Blues,” “Sweet Georgia Brown,” “Say Si Si,” and “Don’t Bring Lulu.” Tip On Bidding: Higher bracket. (U-I) Estimate: Fair programmer has the Henie name and skating. Cast: Sonja Henie, Olga San Juan, Dor¬ othy Hart, Michael Kirby, Arthur Trea¬ cher, Hugh French, Ransom Sherman, Freddie Trenkler, John James, Arthur O’Connel, Joseph Crehan, Ray Teal. Pro¬ duced by John Beck; direct^ by PVederick De Cordova. Story: Sonja Henie and Olga San Juan are friends and barmaids at a saloon in Oslo, Norway. One night, a half drunk assistant film director offers them a part in a film, with Henie in the role of a countess and San Juan as her maid. They ruin the scene, and are bawled out by the director. Ransom Sherman. On the second try Henie drives off the lot in the ritzy car, rented fur coat, and with empty luggage. They make for a swank hotel across the border, and decide to have a real luxurious holiday. They receive a suite, and Henie orders her luggage taken up by Lieutenant Michael Kirby, whom she mistakes for the doorman. Returning to her room later, he sees that the lock has been forced, and manager Arthur Trea¬ cher assumes that all of their clothes have been stolen. He offers to replace every¬ thing, but the girls are fearful of ac¬ cepting his offer imtil Hugh French, jewel thief, appears, and admits he burgled their room. He also admits that he has discovered their identity, and forces them to play along and ask for a sum of money from Treacher. Later, Henie enters the skating competition, and wins the featured spot in the hotel’s annual ice show, mean¬ while spending much time with Kirby. He gives her a valuable broach. When PYench sees this, he assumes that Kirby, too, is a thief. Later, insurance men show up to arrest Henie, but Treacher forestalls them until after the ice show, which is attended * by Sherman, who wants to sign Henie to a contract, not recognizing her. Event¬ ually, French is arrested, Kirby indentifies himself as a wealthy nobleman who wants to marry Henie, and he clears up all her outstanding debts. X-Ray: Built around a familiar story, this one being based on one by Walter Reisch, this &m contains little to dis¬ tinguish it aside from Henie’s skating, which is up to par. The acting is fair as are the direction and production. Among the tunes heard are: “Count Your Bless¬ ings,” “Who Believes In Santa Claus,” and “The Friendly Polka.” Tip On Bidding: Program price. Ad Lines: “She Wanted A Luxurious Holiday, And Paid For It By Falling In Love”; “She Posed As A Countess, And Wound Up In Love With Nobility”; “She Was Interested In Skating And Romance, And He Was Interested Only In Her Jewels.” Shorts THE NOBEL PRIZE.
