Fox Theatre Part of Huge Building Project in Detroit
Official announcement of plans for the construction of a six-story office building fronting the entire block on Woodward avenue between Columbia and Montcalm streets, with a 5,000-seat theatre, which, it is claimed, will be among the most magnificent in America, has been made by A. S. Kentner of New York, vice-president of the Fox Film corporation.
Cost of the new building group, with the land, will be in excess of $10,500,000, Mr. Kentner stated. The theatre will cost $3,500,000, the office structure more than $2,000,000, while the land value approximately is $5,000,000.
Foundations for a 19-story office edifice are now practically completed, although six are to be constructed at present, and construction work on the entire project will proceed with all possible speed, he declared. C. Howard Crane, architect; Elmer George Kiehler and Ben A. Dore, associates, are now preparing plans for the office unit, with provision for the addition of 13 more stories as the development warrants.
