Running Time The fixed speed for sound film is 90 feet per minute. This makes the running time of 1,000 feet 11 to 11% minutes. Knowing the length of a picture and the running time per 1,000 feet, the running time of the picture can be easily computed. The variance in the speed at which silent film is run through the projector makes it difficult to compute the running time of a silent picture with any degree of accuracy. Projectors are now designed for a film speed of 90 feet per minute — the same as the fixed speed for sound film — but the rate at which silent film is actually run varies from 70 to 110 feet per minute, and infrequently is as high as 125 feet per minute.
