RETIREMENTS
Natalie Mackay retired on May 1. Natalie started with Famous Players September 1962 as an usher at the Strand theatre in Edmonton. Natalie moved through the ranks of concession attendant, cashier, assistant manager and manager at various Edmonton theatres such as Garneau, Strand, Westmount and Varscona. In the last two years Nat has rounded out her tour of Edmonton to include the Londonerry and Westmount until her retirement.
Michael Micelli, manager of the Devonshire in Windsor retired May 31 after 46 years with Famous Players.
He began his career as a fifteen-year-old, full time usher at the old Tivoli Theatre in Windsor. We wish Mike a happy retirement and know that he’ll be coming to the movies frequently because he loves the movies.
PROMOTION
Brittania 6-Ottawa promoted Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves with the
Ottawa Sun, Energy 1200 Radio and the Archer’s Cabin by advertising "The Robin Hood Celebrity Shoot" Double passes, T-shirts and posters for the winning archers were given away. The promotion raiscd $300.00 for the Boy’s and Girl’s club and The Archer’s Cabin donated six free archery lessons. What a succesful promotion!
@ The theatre lobby at Palliser Square in Calgary looked like Sherwood Forest in an effort to promote Robin Hood. About 35 members from the Anachronism socicty, dressed in medieval costumes were on hand to give out Tribute magazines and assist with prize giveaways. Prizes included Robin Hood posters and T-shirts. Congratulations on a great promotion.
@ On the opening day of Robin Hood, Pickcring Towne Centre welcomed patrons with a doorperson dressed as Robin Hood.
Oo To launch the release of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Patrick Tamas of the Montreal office, coordinated a promotion with CHOM FM, Montreal Gazette and Musique Plus. The promotional opening was at the Loew’s theatre. In addition, Essam Mohktar, with the help of the SCA Medieval Recreation Socicty raised awareness for the picture. About a dozen performers from the society sang,
danced and chanted outside the lobby and at the theatre entrance on busy St.Catherine St. Posters and standees were also placed outside which drew attention.
12) In an effort to promote candy bar sales and children’s films, Michel Audet & staff at Promenade Cinemas, Gatineau, Quebec offered kid’s film’s on Saturday mornings at a special price. These morning screenings were advertised in the local paper. Michael received a cash bonus and a Citation of Honour.
@ The staff at Le Parisien in Montreal held a contest to celebrate the one year anniversary of the film Cyrano de Bergerac. C/FP Distribution, Le Bearn restaurant and CITE FM 107 helped make it possible. A draw was held for six dinners for two at Restaurant Le Bearn.
Oo Jayne McDonald and Peter Jasica of the Jackson Square Cinemas organized an autograph session with the stars and director of "White Light". A ballot box draw was done with the winner invited to lunch with Al Waxman, Allison Hossak and Martin Kove. Congratulations on a great promotion! Jayne and Peter each received a cash bonus and a Citation of Honour.
@ On Sunday June 16 Square 1, Sussex, Uptown, Cedarbrae, Skyway, Parkway and Towne & Countrye Cinemas held a Father’s Day Car Wash for charity. The advertising department developed the poster, flyer and tickets that promoted this event. Congratulations to everyone for their efforts.
@ The staff at St. Vital Cinemas in Winnipeg teamed up to support the Children’s Hospital Book drive. Over 1,500 books were gathered in support of the drive.
Group Sales Round-up
