All Canada Council Programs are accessible to First Peoples artists or arts organizations and artists or arts organizations from diverse cultural and regional communities. Media Arts Section ¢ Grants to Individual Artists in the Media Arts: Grants to professional, independent media artists support artistic expression through innovation and experimentation with form, content or technology in a variety of genres. The program provides Creative Development Grants and Production Grants through the following: Grants to Film Artists / 1 April and 1 November / lan Reid, ext. 4252 Grants to Video Artists / 1 April and 1 November / Yasmin Karim, ext. 42514 Grants to New Media and Audio Artists / 1 November / Yasmin Karim, ext. 4251 Grants for First Productions in Media Arts: These grants support emerging media artists’ first independent professional film, video or new media productions. 1 April / lan Reid, ext. 4252 Travel Grants to Individual Media Artists: Grants assist independent media artists to travel on occasions important to the development of their artistic practice or career. Examples are to attend presentations of their work at recognized festival or exhibition venues, or to participate in workshops, residencies or other professional development opportunities. Any time / Program Officer, ext. 4253 First Peoples Media Arts Program (Pilot): Offers grants to individual First Peoples FILM CANADA YEARBOOK °¢ 1999 artists to develop their career as media artists and to help produce independent media artworks. This program works to address historic barriers to media production by First Peoples and encourages the use of media arts as a tool for artistic expression. 1 February / lan Reid, ext. 4252 Media Arts Presentation, Distribution and Development Program ¢ Annual Assistance to Distribution Organizations: Assistance is available to Canadian nonprofit artist-run organizations that demonstrate a serious, ongoing commitment to the distribution of independent Canadian film, video, audio or new media artworks. 15 November 1999 (next deadline) / Program Officer, ext. 4253 ¢ Annual Assistance for Programming: Assistance is available to Canadian nonprofit media arts organizations for a oneyear period. Grants contribute to the ongoing presentation and dissemination of innovative, independent media artworks produced by Canadian artists. 15 May / Program Officer, ext. 4253 ¢ Presentation, Circulation and Distribution Project Grants (will later be known as Dissemination Project Grants): Grants assist Canadian, non-profit media festivals and groups to undertake innovative short-term projects. Eligible projects include curated events, festivals, touring exhibitions, broadcasting initiatives, and special marketing and development activities. 15 May and 15 November / Program Officer, ext. 4253 ¢ Project Assistance to Production Organizations for Media Arts Development: Grants support time-limited projects initiated by Canadian non-profit, artist-run organizations, groups or collectives. Eligible projects must provide enhanced opportunities for the production of independent media artworks by Canadian artists. 15 May and 15 November / Program Officer, ext. 4253 ¢ Annual Assistance to Media Arts Production Organizations: This multi-year program offers operating and equipment acquisition assistance to Canadian non-profit, artist-run media arts organizations. Grants assist organizations that provide ongoing support for creation and production of independent film, video, new media and/or audio projects by Canadian media artists. 15 November / David Poole, ext. 4250 ¢ Annual Assistance to Media Arts Festivals: This program supports festivals that advance the development, understanding and appreciation of Canadian, independent media artworks by publicly presenting these works within a critical context with a view to developing committed audiences. 1 October (for festivals occurring in the next calendar year) / Program Officer, ext. 4253 Interdisciplinary Work and Performance Art * Interdisciplinary Work and Performance Art Program: Interdisciplinary work is an inclusive practice that draws upon and integrates various forms to create work that the artist(s) define as being other than solely visual arts, theatre, music, dance, film, video, etc. Artist working in performance, performance art and various oral traditions are also eligible to apply. This program offers financial assistance for research related to and/or production of new artistic work. 15 June and 1 December / Yasmin Karim, ext. 4251 ¢ Interdisciplinary Work and Performance Art Program Travel Grants: Travel grants to professional artists assist Canadian, interdisciplinary or performance artists to travel on occasions important to the development of their artistic practice or career. The program provides two categories of support: Presentation Travel allows artists to respond to invitations to present their work. Professional Development Travel allows artists to attend workshops, residencies, symposiums and conferences, and/or participate in other professional development opportunities outside their home region. Any time / Yasmin Karim, ext. 4251 Strategic Initiatives ¢ Outreach Program — New Audience and Market Development Assistance: The objectives of this program are to contribute to audience development and to increase dissemination opportunities for Canadian art through touring, circulation, presentation and distribution of the arts in Canada.
