The Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA)
was formed in August 1997 to promote
excellence in both filmmaking and in the — Criticism of film. At the end of each year the
TFCA hosts an Award ceremony honouring the
best films released in Toronto that year,
including awards for Best Film, Best Actor el male & female, Best Director and Best
Canadian Film. The first annual TFCA Awards
took place in January 1998.

In the fall of 1989 Festival of Festivals assumed operation of the twenty-year old Ontario Film Institute including its film resource library, vertical file collection and regular screening program. In May 1990, the institute was renamed Cinematheque Ontario. (See Film Institutes)

The only competitive international short film
festival in Canada and the largest in North
America whose mandate is to help educate and
expose a Culturally diverse audience to the short
film genre, with a Market Place for the duration
of the festival where filmmakers and buyers can
meet. The festival assists in promoting contacts
between the various film communities around
the world. A weekend symposium will facilitate
discussion, debate and an exchange of ideas
between industry professionals and filmmakers.
Shorts must not exceed 40 minutes and the
selection of films for the festival will be based on
quality and originality. NO ENTRY FEE!
