The only competitive international short film festival in Canada and the largest in North America whose mandate is to help educate and expose a culturally diverse audience to the short film genre, with a Market Place for the duration of the festival where filmmakers and buyers can meet. The festival assists in promoting contacts between the various film communities around the world. A weekend symposium will facilitate discussion, debate and an exchange of ideas between industry professionals and filmmakers. Shorts must not exceed 40 minutes and the

The Vancouver Intemational Film Festival operates the largest film festival on the west coast of North America. Current international selections are complemented by series devoted to the cinemas of East Asia, Canada, Nonfiction Features and Archival Films. Attendance for the 1999 event of 300 films over two weeks reached 135,000. Each year sees important industryrelated activities including the Annual Trade Forum as well as substantial representation of producers, directors, screenwriters, actors, distributors, buyers, festival directors and foreign press.
