The annual revenues generated by this capital, plus any profits, return of equity, and other, constitute the funds at the Board’s disposal each year. This amounts to approximately $3.5 million annually. Structure of the Fund The Foundation is incorporated federally as a corporation without share capital and has been granted charitable status. The Board of Directors is composed of Directors representing the industry. The operations of the Fund are administered by offices in Toronto and Montréal. FILM CANADA YEARBOOK ¢ 2002 Objectives The focus is on (1) the production of dramatic series for prime time telecast, and (2) the production of dramatic series for children. The primary criterion for acceptance by the Fund is the quality of the project. The Fund wishes to have a significant impact on the financing of each of the projects in which it participates. Programs The Fund provides equity financing for series production grants to TV organizations and associations for development programs. Deadlines February 15, April 15, October 1. Mirsky This fund provides approximately $4 million a year in equity financing to independent Canadian producers for television programming triggered by a first window broadcast on a Canadian cable network (i.e., a licensed Canadian specialty or premium service. The Fund will invest up to 15% of the lesser of the total production budget or final cost of eligible projects to a maximum of $250,000 per project. The Fund supports the following programming genres: drama; documentaries; children’s programming; educational; instructional; performing arts and variety programming. Mirsky Established to foster the growth of documentary filmmaking, in both official languages, and to ensure that these productions are seen by the widest possible audience. The Fund will provide financing to original, high-quality, provocative and / or controversial documentaries which are licensed for prime-time national broadcast. $1 million a year is available via two programs; a Core Funding Program and a Top-Up Financing Program. Mirsky The Fund operates primarily as an interim or bridge lender, advancing funds against secured commitments to eligible, independent Canadian producers, in order that production can be completed before all production financing payments are advanced. All production financing must be contractually committed before funds are advanced. The Fund has a strong preference for television projects and requires that a Canadian broadcaster be in place before a project will be considered. The Fund will consider many categories of programming, including drama, children’s programs and documentaries, however, it is fundamental to the evaluation and selection process that the projects be outstanding in both quality and Canadian theme. Yakemchuk This fund is a permanent, independently governed, not-for-profit corporation providing equity financing for the production of high-quality children’s, youth and family television programming. Fiction and nonfiction, including series, pilots, specials, documentaries, variety, animation and TV movies are eligible. Funding, for independent Canadian producers, takes the form of production equity financing for up to 15% of the production budget. Loans for versions into another language for previously funded projects are also available. A regional incentive, to an additional maximum of a $50,000 equity investment is also available to producers in New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
