Film Classification
The Theatres Act gives the Ontario Film Review Board the responsibility of reviewing all films publicly exhibited or distributed in the Province of Ontario and to assign a Classification it feels reflects the content. To do this, the Board uses guidelines which in their opinion accurately reflect the level of tolerance indicated by the community Standards of the Ontario public. These guidelines are under continual reassessment and review,
The Board classifies film into four Categories:
° Family — Should be suitable for unattended children in the theatre.
° Parental Guidance — Parents cautioned that content may not be suitable for all children.
¢ Adult Accompaniment — Film appropriate for 14 and over and also suitable for viewing by children under 14 accompanied by an adult,
° Restricted — Film restricted to persons 18 years of age and over.
° Eliminations — Each film is judged on its Own merit. The Board may prohibit or require eliminations in a film based on the criteria set out in the regulations to the Theatres Act.
