The Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association (AMPIA) is a non-profit professional service association serving the independent motion picture production community in the province of Alberta. AMPIA was founded in 1973 with the single aim of furthering the independent motion picture industry as a viable economic and cultural force within the province.
Historically, AMPIA has been recognized and called upon to serve as a voice for the Alberta film and video industries. In 1994 the Association strengthened this voice by expanding its membership to include a broader base of industry professionals within its voting membership. Likewise, the organization expanded the size and scope of the AMPIA Board of Directors to reflect the various sectors of this dynamic industry. A monthly newsletter, Keep It Rolling, goes out to more than 500 people in the film industry, both members and non-members of AMPIA. Other Association activities include industry advocacy, professional development and information services.
