BOVVVVVVVVVVIEVVUVvseVsesEsrEVUeVUssessessesssesesss CAVCO's role under the Film or Video Production Services Tax Credit is to determine the eligibility of the production and to issue an Accredited Film or Video Production Certificate on behalf of the Minister of Canadian Heritage. The CCRA’s role is to provide assistance to claimants; interpret and apply section 125.5 and all other provisions of the Income Tax Act and the Income Tax Regulations that may have an impact on the PSTC; review or audit the film tax credit claims within a reasonable time frame; and provide timely refund cheques. The PSTC is a tax credit equal to 16% since Feb. 19, 2003 of salary and wages paid to Canadian residents or taxable Canadian corporations (for amounts paid to employees who are Canadian residents) for services provided to the production in Canada. This refundable tax credit has no cap on the amount that can be claimed, and it is available to taxable Canadian corporations or foreign-owned taxable corporations with a permanent establishment in Canada. GRANTS FOR MEDIA ARTISTS Grants to Film and Video Artists: This program has three components: Research/Creation Grants provide film and video artists with opportunities for creative renewal, experimentation, professional development, research and production. Production Grants cover the direct costs of production and post-production of independent film or video artworks by FILM CANADA YEARBOOK e 2005 pre Canadian film and video artists. Scriptwriting Grants cover the direct costs of scriptwriting (which includes research for artists’ documentaries) for independent film and video artworks. 1 March and 1 October 2005 Anglophone established and mid-career artists: lan Reid, ext. 4264 Anglophone emerging artists: Robin Dupuis, ext. 4252 Francophone artists: Josette Bélanger, ext. 4264 Grants to New Media and Audio Artists: There are three components to this program. Research Grants provide time for established artists to research and develop ideas, production)services — funding concepts and projects, experiment with tools and technologies, work with specialists to develop knowledge and skills, and pursue other activities related to their personal professional and/or creative development. Production Grants cover the direct costs of production leading to finished works of art for emerging and established artists. New Media Residencies encourage creative collaboration and knowledge exchange between established artists and other sectors of society working with new or emergent communications technologies. Research Residencies and Production Residencies are | supported. 1 March and 1 October 2005 Zainub Verjee, ext. 4262 Canada Council for the Arts/Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council New Media Initiative: The Canada Council for the Arts and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) New Media Initiative is intended to promote collaboration between artists and scientists and/or engineers. Funding is available for projects that combine creativity with the development and application of new technologies and knowledge. 15 April 2005 Zainub Verjee, ext. 4262 Aboriginal Media Arts Program: This program offers grants to aboriginal media artists to help them develop their careers and produce independent media artworks. This program supports only independent productions and projects, which are defined as those over which the artists/directors maintain complete creative and editorial control. Aboriginal artists may apply to this program, or any other Media Arts Section program for which they are eligible. 1 April 2005 lan Reid, ext. 4264 Travel Grants to Media Arts Professionals: These grants assist independent professional Canadian media artists and media arts critics, curators and programmers to travel on occasions important to the development of their artistic practice or career. Examples are to present their work at recognized festivals or exhibition venues, or to participate in workshops, residencies or other professional development opportunities. Any time Robin Dupuis, ext. 4262 GRANTS FOR MEDIA ARTS DISSEMINATION Annual Assistance to Distribution Organizations: Assistance is available to Canadian, non-profit artist-run organizations that demonstrate a serious, ongoing commitment to the distribution of independent Canadian film, video, audio or new media artworks. The funding level approved by the Canada Council is normally maintained for two years and contributes to distribution, promotional and administrative expenses. 1 November 2005 Kelly Langgard, ext. 4036 Annual Assistance for Programming: Assistance is available to Canadian, non-profit artist-run organizations that demonstrate a serious, ongoing committment to the presentation and dissemination of innovative, independent media artworks produced by Canadian artists. One-year grants are available through this program. 1 May 2005 Kelly Langgard, ext. 4036 Annual Assistance to Media Arts Festivals: This program supports Canadian non-profit festivals that advance the development, understanding and appreciation of Canadian independent media artworks. Festivals must present these works publicly, within a critical context, with a view to developing committed audiences. 1 November 2005 Zainub Verjee, ext. 4036 Annual Assistance to Cinematheques: This program supports work undertaken by cinematheques to advance the development, understanding and appreciation of Canadian independent media artworks. Support is provided to organizations whose principal mandate is to present, collect, document, interpret, as well as to publish critical writing on, Independent media artworks by Canadian media artists. 1 November 2005 Kelly Langgard, ext. 4036 Dissemination Project Grants: Grants assist Canadian non-profit arts organizations and collectives to undertake innovative, short-term projects. Eligible projects include curated exhibitions/ events, touring exhibitions, broadcasting initiatives, special marketing and audience development activities, and publication of books and major electronic publications. 1 May and 1 November 2005 Kelly Langgard, ext. 4036 Media Arts Commissioning Program: Funding Is available for organizations commissioning Canadian artists to produce independent media artworks for presentation to local, national or international audiences. 59
