The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) was founded by an act of Parliament on May 2, 1989. Its mandate is “to produce and distribute films designed to interpret Canada to Canadians and other nations. The NFB operates a national toll-free sales and information telephone system and maintains partnerships with over 35 libraries, as well as relationships with over 400 other distribution points across Canada to ensure that Canadians have direct access to NFB productions. The NFB catalogue is available on the website. The NFB also has offices in New York, Paris and London, arranging the commercial distribution of NFB titles through private sector distributors, promoting the direct sales of films and videos, and negotiating sales to broadcasters.
