In 2003 the website added a Moving Images online catalogue for their film/video collections. Listed are more than 4,000 titles spanning the history of film production and many genres: documentaries, home movies, promotional films, travelogues, govemment films, dramas, newsreels and many others. The Archives of Ontario is the official archival repository of the Government of Ontario. Sound and Moving Images: moving images and sound recordings from the 1920s to the present, including Ontario government films, televised broadcasts of the Legislative Assembly debates, corporate films from the private sector, amateur films and oral histories. In order to reserve equipment or prepare material, researchers are required to make an appointment for Mon. to Fri. (except holidays), 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Special Collections is responsible for approximately 3.5 million photographs, 150,000 architectural drawings, 35,000 maps and 4,000 items of documentary art. These have been created and collected by private individuals, organizations and the Government of Ontario. They document the people, places and events in the province from as early as the seventeenth century to the present. Special Collections reading room is open Mon. to Fri.
