The two-year diploma course in Film Production explores many aspects of documentary and drama production. In-depth studies of the many and multifaceted crafts that are required in production provide a solid basis for second-year specialization. Essentially, the program is a hands-on endeavour and operates on a production company concept with the instructor as executive producer. Emphasis is placed on duplication of the film industry. Budget and pre-production are treated equally with production and post-production. In addition to the film core subjects the student will take a number of general subjects complementing film production. Graduates may find junior levels of employment in every area of the film industry. These include production, camera, lighting, sound, editing and writing.

The Confederation College Broadcasting: TV Program is designed to offer students maximum career opportunities in the TV production, operations or advertising fields. The College facility, with its modern 5,200 sq. ft. media complex, trains students using industry-standard cameras, lighting and editing technologies. Students are encouraged to research, write and produce their own commercials, corporate features, and new or documentary stories. In the process, they work with both analog and digital production and post-production technology, explore the world of computer graphics, electronic publishing and multimedia, and travel the Internet as they research and develop script and other writing assignments. The program offers a balance of courses to equip students with practical / technical training as well as the theoretical / aesthetic component necessary to succeed in this industry. Students are trained in the operation of all “tools of the trade”. At the same time, the program emphasizes the “process” and the “thinking” that goes into TV production.
The discipline of the broadcasting industry, professional attitudes and behaviours involving initiative, judgement, responsibility and respect are highly stressed. Graduates may apply for entry-level positions as announcers, writers,

reporters, production and operations personnel and for positions in the related fields of sales, promotion, advertising and public relations
