Feminine Committees Named for Allied Meet
Atlanta — Mrs. Charles B. Ellis, chairman of entertainment for the Allied convention which opens Monday afternoon at the Piedmont Hotel, has lined up feminine committees to assist at the various affairs. Mrs. A. Jules Benedic is vice-chairman of entertainment. Other chairmen include:
Peachtree Gardens Dance, Tuesday night, Mrs. Charles P. Lester; Bridge Luncheon, Wednesday, Mrs. A. C. Bromberg; Sightseeing trips, Mrs. W. W. Anderson, and Dinnerdance, Thursday night, Mrs. James H. Butner.
Father William M. Hanlon of Sacred Heart, brother of the late Jimmy Hanlon, M-G-M executive, will deliver the invocation Tuesday afternoon.
British Group After
First Division Control
Control of First Division through purchase of 51 per cent of its stock is being sought by a British group headed by Capt. A. C. N. Dixey at conferences in progress daily in New York, a spokesman for the organization said yesterday. Under the plan the English group, through its firm known as Anglo-American Renters, Ltd., would handle First Division product in Great Britain, while the American company would distribute its product, made by Independent Producers Studios, Ltd., in this country, it was stated.
Executives of Pathe, Inc., financially interested in First Division, are participating in the conferences. They are: Frank Kolbe, president of the company; Robert Atkins, financier, and Sam Spring, counsel. Joe Brandt, who may join First Division in an important executive post in event the deal materializes, is also taking part in the meetings.
Schlesinger Makes Tieups
West Coast Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — Leon Schlesinger, producer of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies for Warner Brothers release, has just returned from New York after a month's stay during which he made several commercial tieups on his series. It is possible that Schlesinger will repeat his performance in producing six Western pictures for 1935-36. No release arrangement has been made nor a star selected. Since his return he has made several contacts in regard to the Western pictures ut is not ready to make any definite announcements.
RFC Opposes Hilles-Leake Fees
New Orleans — Reconstruction Finance Corp. is opposing payment of fees sought by Charles D. Hilles and Eugene W. Leake, Paramount trustees, and several lawyers for services rendered in the Paramount reorganization because of the Saenger bonds deposited as collateral for a $250,000 loan by the RFC to Saenger.
Spanish Feature Monthly Planned by Yankelevich
A schedule calling for production of one Spanish feature a month has been mapped out by Jaime Yankelevich, Buenos Aires radio magnate and producer, who has arrived in New York from South America to buy equipment and engage stars and technicians for his new .studio. He is headquartering at the office of Fally Markus.
Yankelevich, who is accompanied by William Quittner of Buenos Aires, will arrange Central American distribution of a Spanish feature, "Idol of the Radio," which he produced at his present studio in Buenos Aires. He is handling distribution himself in South America.
The producer leaver New York the week of May 26 for Hollywood, where he will spend six days before going to Mexico City. After returning to New York he will visit London and Paris. He starts work in October on his new studio.
Arthur Mayer Dickering On Two Warner Theaters
Arthur L. Mayer, who will operate the new Rialto on the site of the old house, will run the Hollywood and Warner theaters in association with Warner Bros, in event a deal under negotiation is closed. Mayer has opened offices in the Paramount building.
A. L. Schafer Heads Still Dep't

Hollywood — " W h i t e y " A. L. Schafer has been appointed head of the still photographic department at Columbia Studios. Schafer has been with the company three years and was selected by Miss Moore as her personal photographer during the making of "One Night of Love" and "Love Me Forever." Previous to his connection with Columbia, Schafer was connected with the still departments of motion picture companies for 12 years.
Ratoff Film Retitled
Gregory Ratoff 's British-made film production, "18 Minutes," will be released in this country by Paramount during June under the title of "This Woman Is Mine." The supporting cast includes Richard Bennett, Benita Hume and John Loder. Monty Banks directed.
"Loves of a Dictator" for Roxy
"Loves of a Dictator," Toeplitz Production starring Clive Brook and Madeleine Carroll, distributed by GB, will have its New York premiere May 31 at the Roxy.
Consol. Film Preferred Dividend
Board of directors of Consolidated Film Industries has voted a quarterly dividend of 25 cents a share on the preferred stock, payable July 1 to stock of record June 10.
Fox Brooklyn Posts Notice
Employees of the Fox, Brooklyn, have been given two weeks' notice, dating from yesterday.

Speaking last night at the dinner of the Society of Arts & Sciences in honor of Grace Moore, who was presented with a medal for distinguished service on the screen and for music, Will H. Hays delivered a fitting tribute to the Columbia star. A long list of notables attended the brilliant affair.
