"HOORAY FOR LOVE"
with Ann Sothern and Gene Raymond (HOLLYWOOD PREVIEW)
RKO Radio 70 mins.
FAIRLY ENJOYABLE MUSICAL WITH REVUE SPECIALTIES AS MAIN ITEMS OF MERIT.
The specialties are the things that make this picture. They include Bill Robinson dancing, his song number with "Fats" Waller, Pert Kelton as the would-be opera singer, and Maria Gambarelli ballet number. For the trade that goes for toe dancing, they'll get their money's worth in Gambarelli's work. Lionel Stander as the harassed foreign director is a standout. Story in itself isn't much, being that regular backstage yarn, where at the last moment the proper financing allows the show to go on and the boy marries the girl. However, it does serve as a reasonable background to allow for the specialties mentioned above. The Fields and McHugh music is good but not terrific and the dialogue fair, with Stander having some pretty fair lines. Except for a somewhat slow start, Walter Lang's direction keeps things moving briskly. Gene Raymond and Ann Sothern, as the boy and girl, do their standard good work.
Cast: Ann Sothern, Gene Raymond, Bill Rcbinscn, Maria Gambarelli, Thurston Hall, Pert Kelton, Georgia Caine, Lionel Stander, Etienne Girardot, "Fats" Waller, Jeni LeGon, Sam Hardy.

FOREIGN
"FRUEHLINGSMAERCHEN" ("Fairy Tale of Spring"), in German; produced and directed by Carl Froehlich; with Claire Fuchs, Maris Wetra, et al. Distributed by General Foreign Sales. At the 79th St. Theater.
Very entertaining operetta with particularly good music and a good cast in a nice romantic story.
