STONE MOUNTAIN: (J4) Sixteen miles east of Atlanta, reputed to be the largest solid body of exposed granite in the world, rises majestically 800 feet above the surrounding terrain. Its base is seven miles in circumference. Geologically older than the Alps or Himalayas. Indians watched and signalled from its summit. Figured in the Spanish expedition of De Soto about 1540.
