Convention arrangements will be completed by Major Albert Warner and S. Charles Einfeld, who depart from New York today as the convention advance guard. In addition to Major Warner, Harry M. and Jack L. Warner will attend the meeting. Marion Davies will be official hostess at the Burbank studio. A Buick automobile, to be presented to the salesman who has made the best record for the past year, will be known as the Hal B. Wallis Award for 1935. Balto. Dentist Heads Maryland Censor Board Baltimore — Dr. Ben Paul Sandy, Baltimore dentist, has been appointed chairman of the Maryland State Board of Motion Picture Censors, succeeding Bernard B. Gough, whose terms has expired. Dr. Sandy was given a testimonial dinner by more than 300 of his friends on Sunday. Country Club Competition St. Louis, Mo. — It is reported that the Westborough Country Club in St. Louis County plans to give its patrons free picture shows six days a week. It is probable some of the theaters in the territory will object on the ground that this is non-theatrical competition and should not be permitted. IATSE Seen Retaining Control of Local 306 Continued control of Local 306 by the I. A. T. S. E. is practically certain as a result of an overwhelming vote in favor of I. A. rule at a meeting Monday night at Mecca Temple to receive nominations for officers of the union preparatory to returning autonomy to the members. George E. Browne, president of the I. A. T. S. E., told the members that he could not accept their verbal support of continued I. A. rule as final and that he wanted something in writing. In compliance with this, a petition urging retention of control over Local 306 by the I. A. T. S. E. was circulating yesterday among the membership and had already been signed by more than half the members. Harlan S. Holmden, I. A. T. S. E. vice president who has been in charge of Local 306 since the I. A. T. S. E. took it over ten months ago, related that he found the union bankrupt and saddled with a large debt but that at the moment there is slightly over $100,000 in the local's treasury. Report "Pastures" Deal Near Broadway reports yesterday indicated that deal under which Warner Bros, may buy "The Green Pastures," established stage hit, is near closing. Price is understood to be about $100,000, plus a percentage. Ethel Barrymore Retiring Washington Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Washington — Ethel Barrymore will retire from the stage after completing an engagement here Saturday in "The Constant Wife." She plans to open a school of dramatic art in Washington, she stated. Named Columbia Manager Des Moines — Mel Evidon, formerly of Minneapolis, has been appointed as Columbia manager here, succeeding Joe Levy. Three new salesmen, Bob Winnig and Larry Hens ler of Omaha and Art Leak of Sioux Falls, have been engaged. Joe Levy, former head of the Des Moines office has gone to Kansas City to join his brother in business, it is reported.
