Goman Julius Jacques Hess •o&m DAILY Saturday, June 8, 1935 Omaha Houses Give Shows To Aid Flood Victims Omaha — Theaters here were among the first to respond to an appeal from the Red Cross for aid to the Nebraska flood and tornado victims. The Tri-State's Orpheum Circuit offered the total gross receipts from special midnight shows tonight and benefit shows at all its suburban houses. Epstein Theaters, Inc., is giving receipts from five midnight performances on Saturday, June 15, while the remainder of the independents are giving 25 per cent of their gross receipts from performances on June 12. Final M-G-M Sales Meet The third and final M-G-M regional sales meeting will take place at San Francisco tomorrow and Monday at the St. Francis Hotel. Office managers, bookers and auditors will be present as well as George Hickey and Alan Cummings. The meeting will adopt the general outline of regional sessions held at Detroit and Kansas City. Lesser to Star Young Singer West Coast Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — Sol Lesser has signed Bobby Green, seven-year-old singer, and will star him in a special story now being written. The youngster recently came here to study under Mario Fiote, singing teacher. Patterson McNutt as Producer West Coast Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — Patterson McNutt, writer, who did the scenario of Shirley Temple's "Curly Top," turns producer for Fox on "Fly By Night," which goes in work late this month. Schine May Build in Bucyrus Bucyrus, 0. — Schine circuit is understood to be planning to acquire the incompleted theater started six years ago by the Moose lodge and to complete it for opening in the fall. The property has been ordered sold by the court. Fight Illinois Six-Day Week Bill Chicago — Jack Miller, head of the Chicago Exhibitors Ass'n, is leading a group of theater interests in a fipht against the bill introduced in the legislature by Senator Huckin calling for a six-day week. $20,000 Providence Fire Providence — -Fire believed to be of incendiary orisrin did $20,000 damage to the Uptown Theater building. American Seating Cuts Loss American Seating Co. reports net loss of $42,283 for the ouarter ended March 31, against $81,305 loss in the same quarter last year. Takes Back "Forgotten Men" Distribution of "Forgotten Men" in the northeast territory, previously handled by First Division, is being taken over by Jewel Productions, producer of the picture. R. B. Austrian Appointed Photophone Representative Ralph B. Austrian, for years an executive in the radio and motion picture fields, has been appointed special representative for RCA Photophone with headquarters in the New York offices, it is announced by E. M. Hartley, Photophone manager. Austrian will maintain contact with producers and circuit operators in the east in connection with the marketing of RCA High Fidelity sound equipment. Oklahoma City Items Oklahoma City — Pat McGee, g.m. of Standard Theaters, has been in New York the past three weeks as guest of Joseph Cooper. New neighborhood house being erected by Standard will be ready for opening soon. D. L. Halper, cooling apparatus fixer for Warners, New York, is here inspecting equipment of the Standard houses. Warner Train on Last Lap El Paso, Tex. — Warners' Convention Special carrying delegates to the sales convention in Los Angeles arrives here this morning. The Warner men will leave the train here for a visit across the river to Juarez. After picking up E. Bell, branch manager, W. Haefliger, R. Jamison, all of the Denver office, and Arthur Abeles, Warner manager in Mexico, the train leaves El Paso at 11 A. M., with its next stop Los Angeles, where it arrives at 9:00 A. M. to Illinois Allied Retains Scales Chicago — The following resolution was adopted at a meeting of Allied Theaters of Illinois: "Be it resolved that the Allied Theaters of Illinois unanimously agree to retain the same standard of wages as prescribed in the motion picture code for all service employees. New House for Ben Cohn Detroit — Ben J. Cohn, local circuit operator, will have a new 1,100-seat house on Michigan and Trenton Avenues. Plans are being drawn by Bennett & Straight, architects. The same firm is receiving bids on Jeff Williams' New R Theater in Roseville. Capt. Craig with Sea Film Captain John D. Craig, cameraman, soldier of fortune and producer of '"Sea Killers," adventure film, opens a personal appearance engagement for M. & P. Theaters at the Crown, New London, Conn., on June 20 in conjunction with the picture.
