ZANUCK SETS FIRST 9 F0RF0X-20THCENTURY West Coast Bureau, of THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — Out of a minimum of 12 features to be made next season by 20th Century under its new Fox20th Century amalgamation, nine have already been set by Darryl Zanuck, production chief. First two will be "Diamond Horseshoe," with Lawrence Tibbett, and "Sing, Governor, Sing," musical. Then will come "Shark Island," with Frederic March; "Professional Soldier," with Wallace Beery; "The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo," with Ronald Colman; "Nile Patrol," "Earthbound," "G entlemen, the King" and "Ivanhoe." Louisiana Exhibs Lose Fight Against Ascap New Orleans — Concerted action by exhibitors against Ascap, using as a basis the state law taxing royalty collectors $5,000 in each parish, has apparently broken down, with two of the six reported involved in the fight trying to make peace with the music society. They are Thomasie Bros, of Gretna and P. M. Gordon of Westwego. Both are said to have applied for new contracts and were refused. 13 HOUSES OPENED IN WESTERN PENNA. Pittsburgh — In a month when closings usually predominate, there were 13 reopenings in Western Pennsylvania during May, while only four houses went dark. Depinet, president of the RKO Distributing Corp., and Roy E. Larsen, president of March of Time, Inc. RKO will exercise no editorial supervision over the reel, it is stated.
