FINANCIAL NEW YORK STOCK MARKET Radin & Levin Acquire More Houses for Circuit Radin & Levin have closed contracts under which they will operate the Erlanger Theater, Buffalo, and the Chestnut St. Opera House, Philadelphia, in the fall and are now negotiating for theaters in Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago which they also propose to open next fall, it was stated yesterday by Matty Radin. The Belasco, Washington, was closed this week and will reopen Aug. 15 after a cooling system is installed and considerable renovation done, Radin stated. Waldron Ralph Block Paramount Was Solvent, Alfred Cook Testifies Washington Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Washington — Paramount was not insolvent in the sense that its liabilities exceeded assets at the time the committee of shareholders was organized last year, according to testimony by Alfred A. Cook, head of the law firm of Cook, Nathan & Lehman, counsel for the committee, at the Securities and Exchange Commission survey of Paramount affairs. Cook told of the organization committee's work up to the court approval of the plan. Chaney, Jr., Starts Series West Coast Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — Lon Chaney, Jr., has started work in "Shadow of Silk Lennox," formerly called "The Riot Squad," first of the series of 24 action mystery melodramas to be produced by Ray Kirkwood at the old Marshall Neilan studios for release by Commodore Pictures Corp. of New York. Chaney's contract calls for eight pictures a year for three years. Preparing New Serial West Coast Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — Ray Friedgen and Ray Heinz are preparing a new serial for production to be distributed by William Pizor through the Imperial. Joseph Anthony Roach and Helene Turner are completing the scripts. Famous Music Re-Signing Ascap Famous Music Co. plans to sign a new contract with Ascap for a period of five years, it was stated yesterday by Lou Diamond, president of Famous. Gregory Dickson a Colonel Gregory Dickson of the United Artists advertising department is the latest to receive a Colonel's commission from Governor Ruby Laffoon of Kentucky. Daughter for Gloria Stuart West Coast Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — Gloria Stuart (Mrs. Arthur Sheekman) is the mother of a girl. New arrival has been named Sylvia. RKO Delegates Report Improvement Abroad Chicago — Improvement in business in their respective territories was reported by practically all RKO foreign representatives at the session devoted to their field on the closing day of the company's sales convention here. Phil Reisman conducted the session, which included talks by E. D. Leishman, H. W. Leasim, Ralph Hanbury, Reginald Armour, Douglas Lotherington, Fred S. Gulbransen, Luis Lezama, Jacobo Glucksmann, Charles Lelong, Mas Bosnian, Nicholas Cazasis, Joost Smit, Carl Wallman and others. Reisman announced the appointment of Frank Kennedy, formerly of the home office, as representative in China and Japan. Kennedy leaves June 28 via San Francisco on the President Wilson. Appointment of Michael Havas as sales representative in central Europe also was confirmed by Reisman. With few exceptions, the foreign delegation left yesterday with Reis^ man for New York. Gulbransen returns to his Panama post via the coast. Armour returns to India and Lotherington to Australia also by way of the coast. Joseph A. Hopfenberg of the Cia Commercial Radiolux, South American agents for RKO, came on from New York for the final day's session. Music Hall Setting Deals Indications are that new season product deals for the RKO Music Hall will be set within a week or 10 days. In addition to the Radio product, the big Radio City de luxer will probably play Fox again, although this deal has not as yet been closed. Columbia will get around 10 weeks' playing time. Loew to Pre-Show "Sanders" "Sanders of the River," London Film production starring Paul Robeson and released through United Artists, has been booked for a prerelease engagement throughout the Loew Circuit starting the week of June 27. DuWorld Gets Technicolor Feature "Legong, Dance of the Virgins," Technicolor feature produced in Bali by Bennett Pictures Corp. and directed by the Marquis Henry de la Falaise, has been acquired by DuWorld. Lillian Bond to Marry San Francisco — Lillian Bond, stage and screen actress, now here in "Accent on Youth," says she will marry Sydney A.
