380 Seasonal Contracts Francis Harmon to Speak

Chicago — Warners Chicago branch has closed 380 seasonal contracts, according to Tom Gilliam, exchange manager. With the company's sales plan now clicking, Gilliam predicts the territory will show a healthy increase in pix over last year. Indie circuits just signed include Essaness, Schoenstadt and Simansky and Miller.
"The Old Maid," first of the season's pix to reach B houses, has played all houses in that category save one, Gilliam said.
B & K is holding "The Roaring Twenties" for three weeks in the Loop spots, one more than expected. "Elizabeth and Essex" goes into the Chicago Theater early next month.
Rites for Maurice Black,
Bernhardt Father-in-Law
Rites will be held in Riverside Memorial Chapel, 76th St. and Amsterdam Ave., this morning at 9:30 o'clock for Maurice Black, 75, father-in-law of Joseph Bernhard, general manager of Warner Bros. Theaters.
In addition to his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Bernhard, surviving are also three brothers, John, Bela and George.
Interment will be in Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Philadelphia, at noon.
Mr. Black died on Monday night.

Washington — Francis F. Harmon, executive assistant to Will H. Hays, MPPDA president, will deliver an address on Dec. 7 at a three-day conference which opens on Dec. 5 here under the auspices of George Washington University.
The conference will be devoted to analysis and discussion of Pan-American problems.
Harmon's speech will be entitled, "The Motion Picture, — Offspring of Democracy," and is expected to deal with the part films have played in cementing relations between the U. S. and her sister republics of PanAmerica.
Suit Against Majors, 3 WB Theater Co.s Filed in Pa.
Philadelphia — Owners and operators of the Landsdowne Theater, Landsdowne, yesterday filed in the U. S. District Court a civil damage suit for $10,000 against major distributors and three Warner theater companies.
The suit asks for an injunction, charges unjust discrimination and asks that the giving of preference to circuit operators be smashed.
Beefsteak dinner and dance will be given tomorrow night by the Loew theater organization in the Starlight Roof of the Waldorf-Astoria for some 400 employes, executives and their wives. Affair is for district managers, managers and asistant managers, with Oscar A. Doob serving as general chairman for the party. Even the trade press is not invited. Strictlv a Loew family affair, says C. C. Moskowitz.
Hold Rites This Afternoon for Herman Starr's Father
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. today in the Boulevard Funeral Parlor, 374 Empire Boulevard, Brooklyn, for Abraham I. Starr, 75, father of Herman Starr, Warner vice-president.
Starr died at his Brooklyn home vesterday morning. Surviving are his widow, six sons and a daughter.
Set Dec. 2 for Defendants' Reply in Chi. Contempt Case
Chicago — Judge Edgar Eldridge yesterday approved Dec. 2 for defendants' reply in the criminal contempt case against B & K and major film companies.

Washington Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Washington — Consolidated Amusement Co., Ltd., of Honolulu, yesterday filed a registration statement with the SEC calling for issuance of 150,000 voting trust certificates for common no par value stock and 21,287 voting trust certificates for $20 par 6 per cent cumulative series A preferred stock. 5 RKO Pix for B'way
Three RKO pictures are scheduled to open on Broadway tomorrow, with two others slated for early showings. Tomorrow's openiners are "Flying Deuces" at the Rialto: "Three Sons" at the Palace, and "The Fisrhting Gringo" at the Central. "Meet Dr. Christian" goes into the Palace on Nov. 30. "Reno" starts shortly at the Criterion.
W. Pa. AMPTO to Meet
Pittsburgh — Meeting for members only will be held by the AMPTO of Western Pennsylvania at the Roosevelt Hotel Tuesday. President M. A. Rosenberg will report on the Eastern regional conference of Allied States units held at Philadelphia last week. Rosenberg is considering calling a mideastern regional conference shortly.

Increase Use of "Flesh"
for Tri-States in Omaha
Omaha — A "more flesh" policy for winter season in Omaha has been announced by Evert R. Cummings, district manager for Tri-States Theaters.
Circuit reopened 3,000-seat Paramount recently with A. B. Marcus show on stage-screen policy at 55cent top. Although grosses were not up to expectations, circuit will keep on with flesh policy, either at Paramount or at Orpheum if former shutters.
Phil Spitalny's "Hour of Charm" booked for Paramount week of Nov. 24 and Cab Calloway set for Dec. 1. Cummings said.
Circuit hopes to keep up to average of at least two stage shows a month this winter, about double former years. Stage-screen bill gets 55 cent top while straight double features at Paramount get 35-cent top.
