$106,000 "Pulham" Gross In Last 6 Days at M. H.

More than 300,000 persons paid to see M-G-M's "H. M. Pulham, Esq." during its 13-day engagement at the Radio City Music Hall, recording one of the highest grosses in the theater's history for such a run, the Music Hall management announced yesterday. The film grossed more than $106,000 in its last six days.
Capra to Direct Films To Boost Service Morale

Washington — Back to Washington yesterday for the first time since the world premiere of his "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" in October, 1938, came Frank Capra, topnotch Hollywood producer, to offer his services to the Army.
After conferring with Army officials, Capra disclosed he has volunteered to direct and produce films designed to bolster the morale of service men. Capra said he would prefer to concentrate on entertaining and educational films for soldiers, aimed directly to the service men, and not to the general public.
He was met at the train by Col. Richard T. Schlosberg and Captain Sy Bartlett. During the day he conferred with Brig. Gen. Frederick Osborn, chief of the morale branch. Capra's rank has not yet been determined.

Flat Confiscatory Levy Proposed in Washington

Washington — While Congress will not start officially to work on the new tax bill designed to finance the Victory program until mid-January, a move for a flat confiscatory levy on large incomes was reported gaining some headway on Capitol Hill Yesterday. Suggestions that the Government take all above $20,000 or $30,000 income, with even such permissable income subject to "normal" Federal taxation, have been advanced.

$100,000 Roxy Week Seen For "Remember the Day"
Twentieth-Fox's "Remember the Day" is expected to roll up a first week gross of approximately $100,000 at the New York Roxy, it was reported at the home office yesterday.
C. W. White Dies in Miami
Miami — Charles Frederick White, 61, owner of Consolidated Amusement Co., died here after a brief illness. He was a native of Rumson, N. J., and came to Miami 14 months ago from New York. He leaves the widow, Mrs. Florence E. White. Interment in Woodlawn Park Cemetery, Miami.
Joelson Sued for $50,000 Brokerage Commissions
Julius Joelson was named defendant yesterday in a suit for $50,000 brokerage commissions filed in N. Y. Supreme Court by Harry Thoens & Co., real estate broker. Plaintiff contends that it was emploved in December, 1938 to procure for Joelson a theater circuit on the promise of receiving the customary commission.
According to the complaint the plaintiff arranged for the sale of the circuit owned by Consolidated Amusement Enterprises to J. J. Theaters, Inc., a corporation allegedly created for that purpose by Joelson. if Happy New Year! ir
War Won't Curtail Schlesinger's Production
Leon Schlesinger, Warner Bros, cartoon producer, stated vesterday unon his arrival from the Coast that the war would have no appreciable affect on short subject production. Schlesinger said he would produce the same number of cartoons next vear as his current schedule which fonsisted of 26 Looney Tunes and 16 Merrie Melodies in Technicolor. Schlesinger plans to remain here for a few weeks.

Home Offices Will Close Early to Mark '42 Bow
Home offices will mark the approach of 1942 bv closine early today. Twentieth-Fox will be open until noon, Loew's and RKO will "lose at 1 p.m., and Paramount and Columbia at 4 o'clock. Warners, UA. Universal and Republic had not determined their closing hour last night.

Levine Replaces Kalcheim
Harry Kalcheim. h^ad of Paramount's artist bookino bureau, has tendered his resignation effective immediately, Leonard Goldensou. head of Paramount's theater department, announced vesterday. Harry Levine. Kalcheim's former assistant, succeeds.
Rites for Mrs. Hawkinson
Funeral services will be held today in Flushing for Mrs. Marie F.. Hawkinson, mother of Robert K. Hawkinson, Latin-American division manager for RKO. Mrs. Hawkinson died Sunday. Her son is in Buenos Aires.
