Whitney as Temporary State Dept. Consultant
Washington Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Washington — Appointment of Col. John Hay (Jock) Whitney to serve as consultant to Assistant Secretary of State William B. Benton is a temDorary measure, it was said at the State Department yesterday, Col. Whitney, who will not be a full-time worker at the Department, will advise Benton on his dealing with the industry and on the dissolution of the OWI and OIAA pix bureau. The appointment is taken here as clear indication that the OIAA pix program in South America as inaugurated by Colonel Whitney four years ago and carried on by Francis Alitock after Whitney left will be con:inued.
The Whitney appointment, it is understood, runs until Jan. 1 next.
Sudekum Taking Full Time To Meet Disposal Order
Nashville, Tenn. — Tony Sudekum, president of Crescent Amusement Co., has until Jan. 18, 1946, to meet the terms of a court order in the Government's anti-trust suit, and may take the full time allotted, according to George H. Armistead, chief counsel for Crescent in the suit. Without discussing what has been done by Sudekum to withdraw his holdings in six other circuits, Armistead stated that his client will make a report to Federal Judsre Elmer Davies on or before Jan. 18.
Blaustein Editorial Supervisor for Selznick

Hollywood — Maj. Julian Blaustein has been signed as editorial supervisor of Vanguard and Selznick International Pictures. Blaustein expects to be released from the Army shortly. He will headquarter in Hollywood, but will spend several months each year in New York. This appointment in no way affects Margaret McDonell who remains as story °ditor. Before entering the Army, Blaustein was story editor of Paramount.

16 mm. Territorial Reps. Named by Arthur Loew
Appointment of eight men to serve as 16 mm. territorial representatives in Cuba, France, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Chile, Venezuela and Belgium was announced yesterday by Arthur M. Loew, president of Loew's International Corp. Appointments are in line with M-G-M's plans for globegirdling 16 mm. operations in all countries outside of the United States and Canada.
The eight men, each a native of the country in which he will serve, will be given extensive training for eight weeks in this country by Dr. Ronald Carroll, Robert Schmitt and Haven Falconer, in charge of training, equipment and educational aspects, respectively, of M-G-M's 16 mm. operations abroad.
Griffith-Fowler to Film 'Good Night, Sweet Prince'

Hollywood— Director E. H. Griffith and Writer Gene Fowler have formed an independent producing unit tr film "Good Night, Sweet Prince." Griffith will direct from a screenplay by Fowler. No plans have been set as yet for distribution and no deal is expected to be made before early 1946.
Actual production on "Good Night. Sweet Price" won't start for several months, as Griffith and Fowler plan first to film "Rip Van Winkle" ir Technicolor. Barry Fitzgerald will be third co-producer on this independent film and is also slated for the starring part.
Van Every Loses Round In 20th Cent.-Fox Suit
New York Supreme Court Justice Benedict Dineen yesterday denied Edward Van Every, a motion for a temporary injunction to restrain 20th-Fox from further distribution and exhibition of "Sweet Rosie O'Grady" with his name as the author. The court held that the suit, which seeks $75,000 for alleged unauthorized use of the name, must go to trial.
Van Every at the same time seeks to collect a balance of $5,750 from +he sale of three stories to 20thFox in 1941 for $11,500, according to the plaintiff.

Rocamora Organizes Screen Test Company

Hollywood — Wynn Rocamora has organized a company known as Tests, Inc. This organization, which is underwritten by Rocamora, will specialize in making screen tests to be shown to producers and directors. He will set up his office at General Service Studios and actual operations are expected to be started by Nov. 1.
Tests, Inc., will feature 10-minute sequences filmed under supervision of recognized directors. The services of the company are designed mainly for agents who want a particular type of dramatic talent for their clients.
Kiwanians to Hear Lee
Claude F. Lee, director of public relations for Paramount, will be the principal speakers at the Fellowship Dinner at the annual state convention of the Florida District of Kiwanis. He left yesterday for Miami Beach where the affair is to be held at the Roney Plaza Hotel.
