Carmel Myers in First (Special to THE FILM DAILY) Chicago — The first Blair Coan production, "The Girl Next Door," has been finished at the old Essanay studios. Carmel Myers is featured. Urges Portland to Produce (Special to THE FILM DAILY) Portland, Ore.— Tesse T Goldburg, in an address before the Chamber of Commerce, urged the formation of a motion picture bureau to influence producers to make pictures here. Daylight Screen The Daylight Picture Screen Corp. has developed a daylight screen which was demonstrated at the Metropolitan Club last week. A South African film and a colored picture were shown. F. B. O. Housewarming (Special to THE FILM DAILY) St. Louis — Milton Simon, manager gave a housewarming last week in the new F. B. O. exchange. Rainey's Jungle Film For Rialto The Rialto, Rivoli and Moss circuits have booked Paul J. Rainey's, "Heart of the Jungle," a two-reeler. Merit will handle the picture in New York. Orman Leaves Blackton Company (Special to THE FILM DAILY) London — Felix Orman, who for two years has been associated with J. Stuart Blackton in England, has resigned. Increase Capital (Special to THE FILM DAILY) Dover — Achievement Films, Inc., of Philadelphia, have filed an increase of capital with the Secretary of State from $150,000 to $1,100,000. Company Chartered (Special to THE FILM DAILY) Albany, N. Y. — Handy Andy Prod, have been formed here with a capitalization of $300,000. The incorporators are S. Schwartzman, W. G. Lovett and D. Schneer. H. & B. Start (Special to THE FILM DAILY) Los Angeles — The H. & B. Film Co., a recently formed organization, plans to produce eight five-reelers, with Cliff Smith and Helen Gibson playing the stellar roles. Truart Gets "Empty Cradle" Truart will distribute "The Empty Cradle." produced by Burton King with Mary Alden and Harry Morey in the cast. The picture will, in all likelihood, be distributed through the proposed chain of Renown exchanges. Bromley-Fegan Start Soon (Special to THE FILM DAILY) St. Louis— Sam Bromley and Barney Fegan have formed the Associated Hooking Co., a new independent exchange. Fegan recently returned from New York where he contracted for a number of pictures. Increase Capital (Special to THE FILM DAILY) Albany, N. Y.— The Producers Security Corp. has increased its capital stock from $600,000 to $750, 000. Bowman With Shipman (Special to THE FILM DAILY) St. John, N. B.— Ernest H. Bowman, formerly with Anglo-Canadian Picture Plays, Ltd. has been appointed representative for Ernest Shipman Prod, for the Maritime Provinces and Newfoundland. Appearances with Picture (Special to THE FILM DAILY) Los Angeles — The Guy Bates Post picture for Principal will be completed by April 1. Ed Newman and Robert T. Thornby who are sponsoring the production are arranging for a 20 weeks personal appearance tour in conjunction with the picture. Ricord Gradwell stated yesterday the increase had been made for organization purposes only. F. B. O. Buys "Alimony" F. B. O. has purchased "Alimony," by A. T. Locke. "Flaming Waters," by E. Lloyd Sheldon and "The Miracle Baby," by Frank Richardson Pierce. The company has started a special sales drive in conjunction with its first anniversary. About $7,500 in cash prizes will be distributed to the sales force. Beaver Films Buy "Determination" (Special to THE FILM DAILY) Montreal — Beaver Films, Ltd., is a new company with headquarters here. Joseph A. Hardy, secretary-treasurer of the company, has bought "Determination" for Canada. The manager of the Montreal branch is S. H. Kippan. It is planned to open offices in St. John and in Toronto. Merit Film Get Arrows Merit has secured the following Arrow productions for Upper New York: "Nan of the North," "The Fighting Skipper," "The Deceiver," "Headin' North," "A Stranger in Canyon Valley," four Neva Gerber productions, "Chain Lightning," "High-Speed Lee," "One-Eighth Apache," "Rack to Yellow Jacket," "A Motion to Adjourn," "The Innocent Cheat," "Man and Wife," "Night Life in Hollywood."
