Siegmann to Play Legree George Siegmann, veteran heavy, has been assigned the role of Simon Legree in "Uncle Tom's Cabin," which Universal is making. All of the roles now have been assigned with the exception of that of Topsy and Eva. Charles Gilpin, negro star of "Emperor Jones," will play Uncle Tom. New Studio Opened Reminiscences of the past marked Formal opening of the new Melrose Ave. Lasky studio, which has been formally opened. Taxi," with Edward Horton and Marion Nixon, which Mcllville Brown is directing; "The Texas Streak," starring Hoot Gibson and directed by Lynn Reynolds ; Emory Johnson's "The Fourth Commandment," with Belle Bennett, Henry Victor, Mary Carr, Jiuie Marlowe and Robert Agnew. Second of the series of ten "The Collegians" subjects are in work. William Desmond is starring in "The Return of the Riddle Rider." directed by Robert Hill, and Wallace MacDonald is starring in "Whispering Smith Rides," under direction of Ray Taylor. Willy Wiler is directing Fred Humes in "True Blue." _ Vin Moore is directing two Piperock comedies simultaneously, starrin-^ Pewee Holmes and Ben Corbett. Scott Darling is directing a Charles Puffy comedy and Edgar Kennedy a Neely Edwards comedy. Harry Von Meter for "Kid Boots" Signnig of Harry Von Meter fills Vje eight and last principal role of Kid Boots." the Paramount version of Eddie Cantor's Broadway fun-play. Clara Bow. Lawrence Gray, Billie Dove, Malcolm White. Natalie Kingston and William J. Worthington are other leads. Paddock to Support Daniels Charles Paddock, track star, has been given an important role in Bebe Daniel's Paramount vehicle, "The Campus Flirt." Duncan Sisters with F. N. First National has signed the Duncan Sisters. Sparks with Colleen Ned Sparks has been signed bv John McCormick for a featured comedy role with Colleen Moore in "Twinkletoes," which Charles Brabin will direct for F. N. Tom Tyler Goes East Tom Tyler, F. B. O. western star, has left for the East after completing "Out of the West," directed by Bob Delacey. His next will be "Barefisted." Forman Making "Devil's Dice" Tom Forman has been engaged by Samuel J. Briskin to direct "Devil's Dice," at the Fine Arts studio. Hackathorne Back After an absence of a year and a half, during which time he has played leads in New York and Germany. George Hackathorne has returned to the local film colony. Bennett in Abramson Picture Richard Bennett is in the cast of Children of Fate," which Ivan Abamson is making at Tec-Art studios, letty Hilburn and Chas. Walker are 1 the cast. Logan and Frazer Team Jacqueline Logan and Robert Frazer are playing the leads in "One Hour of Love," which Robert Florey is producing for Tiffany at the Roach studios. O'Hara's New Picture George O'Hara is working under direction of Del Andrews in "Is That Nice" for F. B. O. • Mayer Dinner Postponed Absence of several officials of the fire department from the city and inability of high officers of the international association of fire chiefs to be present, led to indefinite postponement of the testimonial dinner in honor of Louis B. Mayer scheduled for Wednesday. Neilan Directs Own Story Marshall Neilan has written an original story of the theater and Greenwich Village, as a starring vehicle for Betty Bronson which he will direct. Paramount to Make "Girl" Picture Plans for filming "Glorifying the .American Girl," in the making of which Ziegfeld was to have assisted. have not been abandoned by Paramount, and the picture will be made in the fall. McCoy with Sennett Harry McCoy, comedy writer and gagman, has signed a three year contract with Mack Sennett. I Maynard Company Returns Ken Maynard and company have returned from Beatty, Nev., none the less for the ordeal of being lost two days in Death Valley. They were suffering from lack of food and water when rescued. In the party were: All Rogell, director; Sol Polito, Bill Sickner, Elwood Bredell, Bert Laemmle to Direct Humes "Loco Weed," starring Fred Hume, is to be directed for "U" by Ernest Laemmle.
