CUNNINGHAM •— i^— — ^— ^— Press Books Bother Australian Censor The 1925 report of the Australian censor contains an important reference to press books which American producers will find of interest. The report states that one of the censor's chief difficulties has been in dealmg with imported "press books" containing a synopsis of the story. The censors endeavored to mark all passages to which exception was legitunately taken, and importers had given an assurance that they would do their utmost to prevent the marked passages from appearing in local advertisements. Sometimes, however, the report states, "press books" find their way to exhibitors through channels other than the customs department. Thus, in spite of the censors' efforts, paragraphs and headlines and sketches which censors had excised and importers had withheld from circulation occasionally appear in Australian advertisements. During 1925 there were imported into Australia 1,763 films of all classes. Following is a table showing the number of films imported from the principal countries together with the number of reels and feet: Country of Origin No. Films Reels Feet (1 copy) Feet (all copies) United States 1,555 5,650 5.115,133 22,841,912 United Kingdom 146 299 257,786 664,004 Others 62 193 200,0'13 515,792 1,763 6,142 5,572,932 24,021,708 Postpone Action on Censorship Glasgow — The Glasgow Education Authority has decided to take no fui'ther action with its scheme for Government censorship of films.
