In production are "Marked Money," with Junior CoRhlan, Tom Kennedy, George Duryea and Virginia Bradford, with Spencer Bennet directing; "Sal of Singapore," with Phyllis Haver starred, Alan Hale the leading man, and Howard Higgin director; "Ned McCobb's Daughter" with Irene Rich and iGeorge Armstrong, directed by William J. Cowen. "Annapolis" with Jeanette Loff and John Mack Brown, directed by Christy Cabanne; and "Captain 'Swagger" starring Rod La Rocque, !with Sue Carol as leading woman and E. H. Griffith the director are being edited. In preparation is "The Spieler," in which Jacqueline Logan and Alan Hale are to be featured. Two Versions Two versions of "The Trial of Mary Dugan," one silent and one sound, will be produced by M-G-M. Writing Another for Colleen Tom Geraghty will write script of "The Richest Girl on Earth," which is to be Colleen Moore's next picture. He wrote scenario of "Synthetic Sin," the star's current picture. "Waterfront" Completed Final scenes have been made for "Waterfront," featuring Dorothy Mackaill and Jack Mulhall. This is a story by Gertrude Orr and Will Chappel. William A. Seiter directed, and supporting cast includes Frances Hamilton, Knute Ericson, Ben Hendricks, James Bradbury, Sr., and Pat Harmon. MacE^an Film Being Made With^Two DiJRferent Scripts Frodjiction h,as started on "The Carnation Kid," the first Christie picture sfj^ring Douglas MacLean with E. MaSdn Hopper directing, which is being ^juied in both silent and soundtalk ver^ons. In order to insure the working'out of the silent version irrespective of its presentation as a talker two complete negatives of the silent picture are being filmed from a completely written silent script. At the same time, another complete negative is being shot from the "talking script" in which all of the sound effects, dialogue, etc., have been written with musical accompaniment to be added later The cast includes Frances Lee, Lorraine Eddy, Wm. B. Davidson, Charles Hill Mailes, Francis McDonald, Carl Stockdale, Bert Swor, Jr., and Caroline Snowden. PARAMTHAS8S0UND FILMS NOW COMPLETED Paramount has completed eight pictures synchronized with sound and now is making six more. In addition, Christie is making sound shorts as well as Douglas MacLean's new feature. "The Canary Murder Case" is to be made with con.'iderable dialogue. Pictures on the sound program are: The Josef von Sternberg production, "The Docks of New York," starring George Bancroft; Clara Bow's "The Fleet's In"; Richard Dix's "Moran of the Marines"; "Sins of the Fathers," starring Emil Jannings; "Interference," featuring Evelyn Brent, Doris Kenyon, William Powell and others, and the Nancy Caroll-Richard Arlen picture of New York stage life which Dorothy Arzner is directing. The three wi" have dialogue and vocal effects. Neville Going East Earl Neville, film editor of the i,Darmour Co., will shortly leave for New York to make a thorough study of the sound picture situation from a technical standpoint. "Haunted House" Started Production has started on "The Haunted House" at First National under the direction of Benjamin Christensen. Barbara Bedford and Thelma Todd portray the feminine leads. Chester Conklin has been borrowed from Paramount for the comedy lead with Montagu Love as the "menace." Wid Gunning is producing the picture. A Little from *'Lots** By RALPH WILK W James in "Gold Braid" Gardner James has been cast in "Gold Braid," being directed bv George Hill for M-G-M. Columbia Film Started "Sinners' Parade," an original centering around night club life, written for Columbia by,' Beatrice Van, is in production under direction of John Adolfi. Dorothy Reyier appears in the feminine lead with Victor Varconi playing opposite. Others in the cast are John Patrick, Edna Marion and Marjorie Bonner. Gwen Lee's Next Gwen Lee's next starring vehicle will be "The Little Angel." Sam Wood will direct, the production starting within the next few days or so. Three Started by T-S This week will see three productions in full swing at Tiffany-Stahl studios. Elmer Clifton starts with Patsy Ruth Miller and Malcolm McGregor in an untitled story of the soutfa. seas; James Flood begins "The Family Row," starring Claire Windsor, supported by Lawrence Gray and Roy D'Arcy; and "The Floating College" starts under direction of George Crone. Sally O'Neill, Buster Collier, Harvey Clark, Georgia Hale and E. J. Ratcliife comprise the cast on the latter production. Betty Compson in Two ^ Betty Compson, while completing a role in "The Docks of New York" at Paramount, also appears opposite Richard Barthelmess in "Scarl?^ Seas" for First National. Dix and Florence Vidor Together Richard Dix and Florence Vidor will be seen together in. a picture following the completion of "Redskin," Dix's next vehicle, and "Unconquered." Malcolm St. Clair will direct. Bosworth in M-G-M Cast Hobart Bosworth appears in support of John Gilbert and Greta Garbo in "A Woman of Affairs," which Clarence Brown is directing for M-G-M. Bartels Assigned Louis John Bartels has been signed by Paramount for "The Canary Murder Case." Added to "U" Cast George Kotsonaros, Jack Raymond and Harry Tenbrook have been cast in "The Shakedown," featuring Barbara Kent and James Murray, which William Wyler is directing for Universal. Additions to "Fog" Cast New additions to the cast of "Fog," Charles F. Klein's initial production for Fox, include Fritz Feld, Andy Clyde, Crauford Kent, Robert E. Homens and John Kelly. Lois Moran and George O'Brien have the stellar roles. "Fog" is an original crook-melodrama written by Charles Francis Coe, author of "Me Gangster." Hollywood S. Van Dyke, who directed White Shadows in the South Seas." had D. W. Griffith as his guest at the picture's premiere at the Grauman's Chinese, yan Dyke gained much of his directorial knowledge from "D. W." * ♦ * Two interested members of the premiere audience were Ernest Schoedsack and Merian Cooper, who made "Chang" and "Grass." * * * "/ uneak away," said Raqnel Torres, heroine of "White Shadows" as she smilingly dodged crowd after the premiere. By the way, the ^ M-G-M producers are scoring as pickers of new talent. First, tvinsorfie Anita Page scores in "Tell It to the World," while Raquel registered in "White Shadows." * * * Henry Otto, a South Seas enthusiast, was a member of the audience. Wallace Worsley is another director, who is an authority on the South Sea Islands. . * * * .' Roberts in Pathe Cast Theodore Roberts has been signed for Pathe's picturization of the Theater Guild play "Ned McCobb's Daughter." Roth Signs New Contract Murray Roth has signed a new long term contract with Warner Bros entitling him to write dialogue and originals for feature productions as well as to direct short subjects^ Roth is at present collaborating \vith Addison Burkhart on an onguial story for the all-talkie field, i he Queen of Night Clubs," which Bryan Foy will direct.
