Protests Store and Hotel Shows London — Rosemund Smith, chairman of the Theaters and Music Halls committee, received a deputation from the London and Homes Counties C.E.A. protesting against free showing of sound pictures at a local hotel and stores. Exhibitors' pointed out that hotels and stores were exempt from regulations levied upon theaters and that this competition is unfair. For some months the studio here was loaned to a private producing enterprise. — Merry Xmas — Exhibitors Make Own News Reel Paris — Syndicat Francais des Directeurs has decided to produce its own newsrcel due to the increase of prices said to be demanded by Gaumont, Pathc and Aubcrt. Over 150 exhibitors have cancelled their contracts with the above companies, it is reported. — Merry Xmas — Berlin Plans Casting Bureau Berlin — Berlin plans to start a municipal casting bureau for extras. Directors have been compelled to seek extras from local coffee houses. The bureau is scheduled to open Jan. 2. T.O.G.G. Bisi, head of the state film council states. Bisi, it is claimed, has wide power and can dictate to exhibitors what films they shall show. — Merry Xmas — Appeal Limited Calgary, Alta.^ — Practically the first restriction on a sound feature in Canada from an official source was experienced at the Capitol, Calgary, Alta., when "The Wedding March" was presented. The production was passed by the censor but with the proviso that it should only be presented before adult audiences. Mike was unmasked. * * * Those cute sisters Dotty ant Margey McCarthy sang a song fron "Annapolis." The committee evi dently had got a trifle mixed on theii programs, and were ballyhooing tlu Navy instead of dear Santa and th( Spirit of Hic-Hic-Horray. * * * Johnny Tucker was very obliging and sang' several of his own compo sitions. His "Ho-Ho-Hogan" was all about Mike O'Toole getting gay The Masked B. sang that sweethear song "Elaine," and kept smiling a Paul Benjamin. Paul blushed, ai was most natural. * * * Lean Batnberger insisted on demonstrating how to make French coffee with our cream and missed mosi of the Xmas entertainment.
