THE McNichoI Donates Million to Canadian Charities Winnipeg — A. R. McNichoI, pioneer Winnipeg showman, has donated another $1,000,000 to various charitable organizations in Canada, making no distinction between creeds. Two years ago he distributed $1,000,000 to institutions he considered worthy of endowment. Arbitration Suit Sold McKeesport, Pa. — John Sowko has taken over the Lyric. He formerly operated the Dreamland here. The Lyric is the house involved in the suit against Pittsburgh exchanges, growing out of an alleged boycott, which followed an arbitraton award. The theater firm has sought to have arbitration ruled illegal in the state. No decision in the case has been rendered, as yet. Suit Filed Against Jenkins Washington Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Washington— Suit for $612,500 alleged due him as broker's and agent's fee in sale of television patents and inventions has been field against C. Francis Jenkins, television inventor, by Arthur D. Lord of New York. Salesman Made Paramount Manager F. S. Gulbransen, salesman, has been named manager of the Paramount Salt Lake City branch, states John D. Clark, sales manager for the western division. He replaces Allen Usher, who has been transferred to Milwaukee. John A. Kraker, Milwaukee manager, has been transferred to the sales force of the Chicago exchange. Two M-G-M Openings Set M-G-M will open its "Hollywood Revue of Revues" at the Astor, New York, about the middle of August. "Hallelujah" is scheduled to open at the Embassy about the same time. Comedy Tear Absorber Rochester, N. Y. — In exploiting "Pleasure Crazed" at the Rochester, H. M. Addison got out a flock of eye attracting green handkerchiefs with a card attached containing: "You'll laugh 'till tears come at its delightful comedy and have a good old-fashioned cry at its pathos." Lesser Plans Sales Trip Irving Lesser, sales manager of General Talking Pictures, leaves New York soon on a sales trip, which will take him as far as the Coast. Born at Minneapolis in 1896, Wray for 18 years was in the legitimate field. His screen career started with First National. He was general manager of Thomas H. Ince's enterprises. For the last three years he has been with Fox. Musicians Renew Sound House Fight at 'Frisco San Francisco — Musicians have renewed activity in the fight against replacements at wired houses, with filing of a $2,832 damage suit against one of the theaters involved. The musicians recently lost a suit to compel retention of the orchestra. Chinese, L. A. Robbed West Coast Bureau, THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — A messenger carrying $15,000 of the Chinese theater's receipts was robbed by three bandits yesterday.
