L. Palmerton, formerly with the Dept. of Commerce, has been named foreign manager for Electrical Research Products. He succeeds E. S. Dregg, who has been named managing director of Western Electric, Ltd., with headquarters at London. H. E. KnoXj former managing director at London, is returning to America to assume an executive position. Gest Aids Rescue Work in Western Train Wreck Stratton, Colo. — Morris Gest aided in rescue work in a train wreck near here yesterday. He escaped injury in the crash which killed eight and injured a score. The train plunged through a bridge, weakened by a cloudburst. Lasky Debut With Grauman West Coast Bureau, THE FILM DAILY Hollywood— His first professional appearance was at Grauman's Unique theater, San Francisco 28 years ago, Jesse L. Lasky declared at a testimonial dinner for Sid Grauman. In addition to Lasky, Joseph M. Schenck, Irving Thalberg, Jack Warner and Harold B. Franklin spoke at the dinner. Sunday Shows at Huntington Huntington, W. Va. ■ — Sunday shows now are being given at the Keith-Albee, following action of the Citizens' Board, in vetoing an ordinance prohibiting Sunday shows. The measure had support of the Ministerial Alliance and the Women's Christian Temperance Union. McCarthy to Head Public Relations of P.F.L.-Publix Charles E. McCarthy, Monday is to be named director of public relations for Paramount and, Publix. He has been director of publicity for Paramount for the last ten years. In his new capacity McCarthy will have charge of all Paramount and Publix advertising and publicity, it is understood. Earl Wingart, director of publicity at the Paramount Long Island studio, has taken McCarthy's place in charge of Paramount publicity. Al Wilke will take over Wingart's duties at the studio. "Drummond" Closing July 28 "Bulldog Drummond" begins the 13th week of its engagement at the Apollo, New York today. Its run will be concluded on Sunday, July 28. Einfeld Back Today Charles S. Einfeld, director of advertising and publicity of First National, returns today from the Coast. Carter New U. A. Charlotte Manager Charlotte — N. Carter has succeeded C. E. Peppiatt as manager of the United Artists exchange here. The latter has been transferred to Atlanta. Gloria Arriving Monday Gloria Swanson arrives in New York from Hollywood Monday en route to Europe. She sails Aug. 2. Senate Madison, Wis. — By a vote of 17 to 16, the repeal of the Sunday "blue" law has been voted down by the State Senate. The voting was so close that Lieut. Gov. Henry Huber was called upon to cast the deciding vote on a motion to reconsider. Atlanta Mayor Approves Ban on Sunday Pictures Atlanta — Protest of the city council against proposed attempt to amend the "blue" laws to permit Sunday pictures in Bibb County has been approved by Mayor Ragsdale.
