FOX REPORTED SEEKING RADIO AND DISC FIRMS A British Poser London (By Wireless) — Whether a talking film should be exhibited after the death of one of the principals of the cast, is a question rife in the British industry. Producers and players disagree on the subject, brought up by proposed showing of "White Cargo," which has in its cast Leslie Faber, English actor who died three weeks ago. Producers feel that the showing would shock the sensibilities of the public, but the players disagree, contending the film should be shown. PATHE NET, $524,336.65 FOR 28 WEEK PERIOD Net of $524,336 for the 28 weeks ended July 13 is reported by Pathe. This compares with a loss of $350,050 in the same period last year. Williams has resigned as executive vice president of World Wide Pictures to organize a production company to make multi-lingual pictures in London, in association with E. Chicago— Posing as exhibitors, two gunmen yesterday engaged William Lymon in conversation, then drew pistols, lined up employees against the wall and forced Lymon to open the safe, escaping with the $4,000 payroll of the Warner exchange here. Beefsteak at M. P. Club to Mark First Birthday The Motion Picture Club of New York will celebrate the first year of its existence on Sept. 10 when a beefsteak will be held in club quarters. About 200 will attend. Hamilton, O. — Checkerboard activities of theater expansion in Ohio, find this city due to receive several new theaters, if present plans are carried to consummation. No less than four big first runs are being proposed locally, it is stated. Some time ago, the Fourth Ave. Amusement Co., of Louisville, headed by Fred J. Dolle, announced plans for a $1,000,000 theater here, as part of an expansion program planned throughout the Buckeye state. This was to be built in co-operation with the Hamilton Theater Corp The chain has 51 houses in Kentucky and Indiana. Both Publix and Warners are de(Continued on Page 8) American Broadcasting, Columbia Phonograph, Brunswick Named Fox is developing his plans for acquisition of a national radio broadcasting chain, a disc recording company, and a music publishing firm, it is understood. The reported object of the plan is to make the Fox organization self-contained, in the various angles of the amusement industry. Because of this, it is expected that proposed consolidation of the Fox interests into one company, will await the outcome of the present negotiations. As was exclusively reported Aug. 25, by THE FILM DAILY, Foxhas been dickering for the American Broadcasting Co., chain of 30 stations in the West and Middle West. The firm, which has its headquarters at Seattle, now is in receivership. Although negotiations last week were reported dropped, the deal is considered likely at Seattle. Station WOR in New York and WDBM, Chicago, also are sought, it is stated. Fox also is said to be seeking either the Brunswick-Balke-Collender or Columbia Phonograph firms. Brunswick formerly had a deal with RCA for a license, and was slated to make the RCA Photophone discs prior to RCA's acquisition of Victor Talking Machine Co.
