Closing of the deal will mark end of three-cornered competition throughout the state, with Fox Midwesco and Universal remaining as the contending chains. Midwesco has taken over a number of Brin theaters which were part of the former Fischer Paramount Theaters circuit. No Deal Closed for Taking Over of Berlin Music Firm Cataloguing of copyrights of YVaterson, Berlin & Snyder, music publishing firm, is under way, but no deal for control of the firm has been closed with RKO, it was stated at company offices yesterday. Proposed Combine Off is Report Current After P-F-L Meet Proposed consolidation of Warners and Paramount threatens to become an "on again, off again" affair, it was indicated yesterday when reports gained circulation that the deal is off. Paramount directors met again for the second time within a week, at which time the deal is understood to have been a chief topic of discussion. Whether the proposed deal is being held back pending an okay from the Dept. of Justice, or whether proposed terms of exchange of stock loomed as the stumbling block is not indicated. JOHN M. ANDERSON E TO REVUE John Murray Anderson, creator and producer of stage revues, has signed a contract with Universal and is to write and produce "The King of Jazz Revue," starring Paul Whiteman and his orchestra. Lefkowitz Group Adds Another at Cleveland Cleveland — Max Lefkowitz and associates have taken over the Oriental, East Ninth St. and Superior Ave. With this house, the Lefkowitz now control practically all of the downtown picture theaters, exclusive of the Keith and Loew houses. Their houses are the Strand, Orpheum, Standard, Gaiety and Oriental. Memphis Shows Minute After Midnight Sundays Memphis — Although Sunday shows are prohibited here, the 12:01 A.M. shows presented Monday mornings at Loew's State are proving popular.
