Customs of Old Spain {Continued from Page 1) pointed and personally inquisitive query. "Granting as you do that the big stars do not need advertising and publicity of a commercial nature, why is it then that you allow your name and photographs to be used for commercial advertising purposes, for cough cures, hair layers and what nots? Acting is a profession and an old one. All professions have conventions and ethics. We feel it ib below the dignity of stars such a: you and the industry they represent to cheapen themselves by such methods." "Hush" sez He, "IT'S SIMPLY AN OLD CASTiLIAN HABIT." Persistent Spaniards The other day we were walking leisurely along the Rialto soliloquizing in general on the splendid spirit of brother love existing within the industry. As we stopped and looked longingly into a window featuring silk shirts for men we were tapped merrily on the shoulder and given the bright greeting by a sales executive of one of our foremost film factories. "Sh-h" whispers he with the wink of his good eye, "I'm going to let you in on a secret. It's a scoop old man and you shall have it first." Here was the old army game again that we have heard oh so many times. We closed our eyes, gritted our teeth and prepared for the worst. "It's positively a smash and the greatest picture that ever came out of Hollywood and I am having a special showing for you, all by yourself, tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock in our projection room." And there we were hooked again as neatly as you'd land a mountain trout. We arrive at the projection room promptly at ten only to find seven other chump critics there. As we eye one another we ail know the picture will be lousy. The dynamiter who lured us there, and his whole staff and family too, know it's bad but what of it, perhaps he can talk us into thinking it's good. After we have wasted a half day and then voiced in no uncertain terms our judgment that the picture is a complete bust as far as we are concerned and ask meekly in the name of justice, equity and the twelve apostles what we have done to deserve such treatment we are gently slipped the info by him of the twinkling eye that FOR CENTURIES IT'S BEEN DONE IN SPAIN.
