It is alleged by the petitioners that the Skouras brothers owned a majority of the B stock until last January, when they are said to have disposed of their holdings to Warner Bros., who have since dominated the Skouras theaters, keeping the corporation out of the market for other pictures and causing depreciation of the A stock. Garfield Named Manager Of Warner's New Beacon Charles G. Garfield, who has owned and managed theaters in various key cities for the last 15 years, has been named manager of the new Beacon, at Broadway and 74th, it is announced by Harry L. Charnas, managing director of the Warner Metropolitan Theaters. The house is scheduled to open Christmas Eve. Fox "A" Stock is Listed on California Curb Exchange West Coast Bureau, THE FILM DAILY Los Angeles — Listing of 820,660 shares of Fox Film Corp. "A" at no par value has been approved by the Los Angeles Curb Exchange. Trading of this stock in Southern California became effective Dec. 13. Short With Jimmy Rogers Completed by Columbia "Singing Brakeman" is the latest Columbia-Victor Gem to be completed at Camden, N. J., under the direction of Colonel Jasper E. Brady. Jimmy Rogers is starred. Handling "Locked Door" Harry Reichenbach has been engaged by United Artists to handle exploitation on "The Locked Door," which will follow "The Virginian" at the Rialto. No definite date for the opening of the picture has yet been set. Gourdeau in New York E. Gourdeau, managing director of Australasian Films East, with offices in Singapore and Java, has just arrived in New York to buy talking equipment and films for the Orient. Louis Bromfield Signed Louis Bromfield has been signed in New York to write for Samuel Goldwyn. He leaves for Hollywood next month. En Route to Coast Arthur Hornblow, Jr., production chief for Samuel Goldwyn, and Sidney Howard, adaptor of "Raffles," are en route to the Coast to prepare for production on the picture which begins Jan. Somma and Coulter May Combine Southern Houses Richmond— Reuniting of Charles A. Somma and his former partner, Walter J. Coulter, are said to be in prospect with proposed forming of a new corporation to establish theaters in three Virginia residential districts: Swansboro, Church Hill and Chestnut Hill. The exhibitors separated just about the time when the new Byrd, which they built last year, was being completed. Somma now operates the Hippodrome and Globe, of Second St., and the Star, Fulton. Coulter, who operates houses here and in Petersburg, is reported to be interested in buying into a theater in Williamsburg, college town. Musician a Suicide Louis Sudnow, picture theater musician, committed suicide by gas. Friends said he was unable to secure employment since the talking pictures came into popularity. Praised by Board of Review The Board of Review's official organ, Photoplay Guide of Popular Entertainment, has given its approval to the Warner films "The Aviator" and "So Long Letty." P-F-L Film Rentals Up 48 P.C. Receipts from film rentals during the first two weeks of this month were 48 per cent in excess of those for the same period of 1928, it is reported by Paramount. Johnston Honored by Friends Dallas — P. K.
