This leading industry publication, published out of New York, was founded in 1915 by Wid Gunning (who called his publication Wid's Daily until 1922). The Film Daily documented the rise of the Hollywood studios, the transition to sound, and the evolution of the American film industry (the paper finally shuttered in 1970). The Film Daily included feature reviews, news stories, and advertisements, but its extensive coverage of short films in the 1920s and 30s distinguished it from other trade papers of the period. -- Eric Hoyt, 2011/2013

A poor mowing, on the other hand, not onl\ ,vill be an unfavorable commentary >ut it will mean a limitation of the und's work and the probable necessity of some cases having to appeal o individuals for aid — and these are he verv incidents that you will b< spared through vour support of THE III.M DAILY RELIEF FUND. Manager Destitute Former theater manager, who through inability to get steady work due to sickness has been practically penniless. Major op eration was necessary and made possible only through aid from the FILM DAILY RELIEF FUND. Now on road to recovery and being temporarily taken care of by the FUND. In the past week or ten days the Fund has taken care of no less than eight of these especially needy cases. There is no red tape, there is n< waiting, and everyone in any wa; connected with the fund gives histime willingly and cheerfully to this great cause. Relief is extended immediately, when it is needed and can do the most good. If everyone who has given to this fund could possibly sit down with us and hear each case and then see the great happiness that is given to the needy, they would be doubly proud of the part they played in helping.
