Another Disney Holdover Following in the footsteps of "Three Little Pigs," Walt Disney's "Lullaby Land" has been held over for a second week at Loew's State. Selling 8 Weeks Ahead London — Ticket brokers have made £ 550,000 buy, running eight weeks, on Charles Laughton in "The Private Life of King Henry VIII," British-made United Artists release. Playing at the Leicester Square, it is doing the biggest business of any film, American or British, since Chaplin's "City Lights." Short Shots from Eastern Studios ■ i,;.,^-^— By CHAS. ALICOATE i A/fTLTON BERLE, recently signed by Educational, has been assigned the starring role in the second Musical Comedy to be made by Jack White from a story by Harold Atteridge under the title "Poppin" the Cork." Shooting will begin at the Eastern Service Studios in the Bronx on Friday. Eddie Roberts, who portrayed the comedy "tough guy" in Jack White's first musical comedy for Educational, "Million Dollar Melody" appears in the Coronet Comedy, "The Good Bad Man" in support of Tom Patficola, Frances Upton, Edna Meirse and Charles Judels. The picture has just been completed. Fred Scheld assisted on the direction and handled the casting, with Larry Williams in charge of cameras. Glen Lambert and Dolph Singer are doing the script for the "Pepper Pot" short in which the Radio Ramblers will star for Vitaphone. Ralph Staub is to direct, and production starts late this week. Story preparations are under way for the first Stoopnagle and Budd starring comedy which Al Christie will shortly produce for Educational. Marshall Neilan, is scheduled to start work this week at the Eastern Service Studio in Astoria on the feature tentatively titled "Social Register," which will feature Colleen Moore. William DeMille will codirect, with Joe Nadel supervising production. Al Christie ivill start work Monday at the Eastern Service studio in Astoria, on the first of the series of shorts to star Moran and Mack to be produced in the east for Educational. "Nervous Hands" has been definitely set as the title of Ben Blue's second Vitaphone short recently completed at the Brooklyn plant. The short .featured in addition to Blue, Loretta Sayers and Billy Halligan. Ralph Staub directed from a story by Glen Lambert and Jack Henley. "The Strange Case of Hennessy,1' featuring Cliff Edwards and produced by the Meyer Davis production unit of Van Beuren for RKO release, has been completed at the Fox Movietone studio. Supporting Edwards in the short which was directed by Ray McCarey are, Jean Sargent, Jack Fulton, Johnie Downs, Marjorie Hines, Freddy Hillebrand and Walter Fenner. Monroe Shaff supervised production with Joe Nadel assisting on the direction. Vitaphone Vitamins: Lillian Reynolds, who appeared in several coast features for RKO, has joined the Vitaphone chorus of beauties, replacing Eileen Leahy . . . Milton Cohen has set Dec. 31 as his wedding date but refuses to devulge the girl's name. . . . The cutest set of maids will adorn the burlesque "Come to Dinner". . . . They're the studio chorus who appear in particularly abbreviated garb for the "Dinner At Eight" satire. . . . Hal LeRoy will make another short for Vitaphone before he goes to the coast for Warners to enact the role of Harold Teen in a feature. "Bud" Pollard starts shooting today on a series of eight commercial shorts which he is directing for General Business Films. The series is being made at the "Bud" Pollard Studios, Grantwood, N. J. Don Malkames is doing the camera work. "Git Along Little Wifie" has been selected as the final title for the new Educational-Coronet Comedy featuring Taylor Holmes, Natalie Moorhead and Lena Malena. James Melton, whose voice has thrilled the millions of radio fans, faced the cameras yesterday when production started on the new Educational-Song Hit story, "The Last Dogie." The famous tenor, starred in this picture, will sing a number of the haunting cowboy laments which emanate from America's rugged west. Chicago U. A. Theater Bombed Chicago — A stench bomb dropped Saturday night in the United Artists Theater, Balaban & Katz Loop house, drove patrons to the street. The management denied there had been any labor troubles. "Cuba" for Chicago Theater "Cuba," Principal's two-reel subject, has been booked in the Chicago Theater, Chicago, marking it the first time in many months that this theater has played an independent subject. P. Drew, sales chief. Exchanges are understood to have enough silent films on hand to supply these houses for two years.
