Scott Darling has completed writing the modern version of "The Old Homstead," which Liberty has placed in production at RKO Pathe Studios in Culver City with William Nigh directing. The cast is as follows: Mary Carlisle, Lawrence Gray, Dorothy Lee, Eddie Nugent, Willard Robertson, Fuzzy Knight, Lillian Miles and others. "The Old Homestead" will be produced with a musical background. ¥ T » The French influence is being felt by 20th Century Pictures. "Les Miserables" and Cardinal Richelieu" are in production, with "Folies Bergere" in the editing stages. Strand Week-End Records Broken by "Devil Dogs" Warner's "Devil Dogs of the Air" broke all week-end records for business at the New York Strand, according to the house management. Receipts ran nearly $1,000 ahead of the "Flirtation Walk" record. The picture starts its second week tomorrow. As part of the exploitation for the picture, an aerial show was staged over Broadway on Saturday by a squadron of U. S. Marine planes. The maneuvers were described through a public address system by Irving Windisch, exploitation director for Warner Metropolitan Theaters, who pinch hit when Barney Capehart, who was scheduled to do the commenting, failed to show up in time. Advices from coast yesterday stated that "Devil Dogs" had set a new house record at the RKO Hillstreet in Los Angeles. Nat Holt Heads Cleveland Variety Cleveland— The Variety Club has elected Nat Holt, RKO division manager, president for the coming year, to succeed Frank D. Drew. Other officers elected were : First vice-president, I. J. Schmertz; second vicepresident, Col. Harry E. Long; treasurer, Nat L. Lefton, and secretary, M. B. Horowitz. Drew, Jess Fishman and Jack Shulman were elected to the board of directors. Mauch Chunk for Mrs. G. P Hatrick, mother of Edgar B. Hat-j rick, vice president and general! manager of Cosmopolitan Cor-I poration and of Hearst Metrotonej News. She died Sunday at her home| in Mauch Chunk, Pa. Hatrick was on the coast when news of his mother's illness reached him. He flew east and was at her bedside before the end came.
