Ellis Returning to N. Y.

Hollywood — Having completed taking of depositions from M-G-M executives in connection with the consolidated stockholders suit designed to kill profit-sharing agreements, Emil K. Ellis, attorney for the stockholders, is planning to leave for New York over the week-end. Ellis will continue his questioning of executives when he returns to NewYork next week, with Nicholas M. Schenck, J. Robert Rubin and David Bernstein among those who will be quizzed.
Roxy Theater Declares
$1.50 Dividend on Pfd.
The Board of Directors of Roxy Theater, Inc. at its meeting yesterday declared a cash dividend of $1.50 per share on the preferred stock of the corporation for the fiscal year ending Aug. 25, payable Aug. 10, to stockholders of record at the close of business Aug. 3.

Universal's board of directors met yesterday and reportedly heard details of the new English financing plans as announced Wednesday by J. Cheever Cowdin, chairman of the board.
"Ragtime Band" Premiere Draws Execs, and Celebs.
Converging on New York from different directions are a number of execs, and celebs who will arrive here during the next few days to be present for the Coast-to-Coast broadcast of 20th-Fox';s "Alexander's Ragtime Band" next Wednesday night, and the debut of the picture next Friday at the Roxy.
Sidney R. Kent, president of 20thFox, arrives in New York Sunday night from Maine, where he has been taking a vacation. Darryl F. Zanuck, production head of the company, who produced the pix, arrives here Monday on the Normandie after a European vacation with his family. Joseph H. Moskowitz, studio representative in New York, arrives from England on the same ship.
Tyrone Power, one of the picture's stars, arrives here Monday from the Coast, accompanied by Jack Haley. William Dover, studio personnel manager, and Ethel Merman, who has an important role in the picture, have already arrived in town. Alice Faye, who was also starred in the film, will be picked up from the Coast on the broadcast, which will feature numerous bands and personalities associated with the pix and its background.
FPC Offers 5-Year Lease for Loew's Thea., Montreal
Montreal — Mansfield Theater Co., proprietors of Loew's Theater here, has received an offer from Famous Players Canadian to rent the theater on a five-year lease starting Sept. 1. Famous Players offers sufficient rental to enable payment of 3% per cent annual dividend on the company's preferred stock. Offer will be considered by the Mansfield shareholders.

Washington Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Washington — A beleaguered National Labor Relations Board is so swamped with pending cases that Board members have not yet had opportunity to discuss the matter of the Coast studio protests against the recent writers' election, a Board spokesman said yesterday. Present "board pressure" would not permit consideration of the case referred by Dr. Towne Nylander until next week, it was said.
