Italian Production Booms Without Benefit of Governmental Financing Production in Italy is booming and, contrary to reports, the Italian Government is not financing the companies, according to Americo Aboaf, managing director of SAI Films-Paramount, distributors of Paramount pictures in Italy. Aboaf arrived here yesterday on the Conte di Savoia for home office conferences. Aboaf said that the Italian studios would produce between 60 and 75 pictures for the new season. Every studio is busy and even the old studios which were active 20 years are being remodeled to take care of planned product. Every production unit is backed by its own money and without government support, he said. Aboaf declared he knew nothing (Continued on Page 4) British Television Progress Rapid, Says McNeil Television is making such rapid headway in England that it is becoming a common sight to see broadcasts in cafes and department stores, according to R. A. McNeil, general manager of the Golden Gate Theater Circuit in Northern California, who arrived here yesterday from Europe on the Conte di Sa voia. McNeil indicated that in time television would offer a threat to the picture business and that he was interested in it from the standpoint of American competition.
