His job primarily will be to supply specific ideas to film and radio writers on how to prepare important OPA stories for the screen and radio. Chicago Business Drops 15% at Trial Blackout Chicago — Theaters reported about 15 per cent drop in business last night due to the trial blackout. Monogram to Have Nine Releases Before Oct. 9 An unprecedented backlog of completed Monogram features awaits national release dates, with nine productions scheduled for distribution between Aug. 14 and Oct. 9, according to an announcement by W. Ray Johnston. First to reach the Monogram distribution centers throughout the United States is Snuffy Smith and Barney Google in "Hillbilly Blitzkrieg," second in the series of features produced by Edward GrossJack Dietz and based on Billy DeBeck's celebrated comic strip. The two remaining releases for August include "Riders of the West," seventh in the series of "Rough Riders" starring Buck Jones, Tim McCoy and Raymond Hatton, produced by Scott R. Dunlap with Howard Bretherton directing, and "One Thrilling Night." The quartet of September releases includes "Arizona Stagecoach" on the 4th, latest of the "Range Busters" series; "Isle of Missing Men," on Sept. 11; one week later, "King of the Stallions," with Chief Thundercloud, produced and directed by Edward Finney; and on Sept. 25, the Lindsley Parsons' feature "Police Bullets." Two productions have been completed for October release: "Phantom Killer," on Oct. 2, and "Foreign Agent" set for Oct. 9. MPOE Seeks Immediate Signature of WB Pact Motion Picture Office Employes, Local 23169, AFL, will exert every effort to have its contract covering white collarites at Warner Bros, signed in time for its submittance to the membership at a meeting at the Capitol Hotel on Monday night. The pact is now in process of being drawn. Terms of the agreement were laid down Sundav nie-ht at a conference at the IATSE offices and anproved by the membership Monday morning, when the 10-day strike officially ended. RKO Adding Advtg.-Pub. Wing to Studio Dept. West Coast Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — RKO Radio Pictures is adding an advertising and exploitation wing to its studio publicity denartment. beginning1 August 17. The new branch will be headed bv Elliston Vinson, who is assistant miblicity director to Perry Lieber. who continues as head of advertisine and exploitation campaigns on all PKO pictures built around selling ideas from Koerner and other Producers. Milt Howe, publicity manager, will handle all publicity. "No Greater Sin" Preview Chicasro — Mayor Edward Kelly yesterday addressed the preview audience at Orchestra Hall for Clyde Elliott's "No Greater Sin" which opens a Loop run today. NLRB Postpones to Wed. SOPEG's Para. Hearing National Laboi Relations Board has postponed to aext Wednesday its hearing on the petition of the Screen Office and Professional Emnloyes Guild, Local 109, UOPWA, CIO, for a collective bargaining election at the Paramount home office, exchange and newsreel_and_ at the company's music subsidiaries, Famous Music Corp. and Paramount Music Corp. The hearing was to have been held today. The postponement was asked by the IATSE, AFL affiliate, on the grounds that it wished to present proof of interest in the election. The IA's action was regarded in labor circles here as proof of the AFL's determination to step up its opposition to the CIO's organizational activities in the film white-collar field. Coast SOEG Negotiations Open in New York City Negotiations between home office executives and officials of the Screen Office Employes Guild for studio white collarites opened yesterday at the offices of Pat Casey, the producers' labor representative. The union is being represented in the discussions by Herbert Sorrell, head of the Conference of Studio Unions: Glenn Pratt, business agent, and Beniamin Nostram of the SOEG. The negotiations between the union and the studios were switched to New York by Casev when the failure of SOEG officials and negotiators from the home offices to reach an agreement brought threat of a strike of white-collar workers at the studios. FPC Employes Called on For Greater War Effort Toronto — President J. J. FitzsribHons of Famous Players Canadian Corp. called on employes and partners to greater war effort in his onening speech before the Eastern division officials and associates in convention at the Royal York Hotel vesterday. Fitzgibbons declared that ereater support is n^cessar^ to insure victorv for the United Nations. Preliminary discussions will continue todav when the special quests will include Barney Balaban of New "Vork and Premier M. F. Hepburn of Toronto. "Pride of Yankees" Gets $110,000 at the Astor Samuel Goldwyn's "The Pride of the Yankees" starts its second month at the Astor todav. Still breaking every house record the theater has ever held. The manao-ement reports street lines for five out of seven daily shows. The first month's business totals $110,000. surpassing any picture at any policy at the house.
