DANE CLARK, Warner Bros, star, leaves New York on Wednesday for the Coast following six weeks of personal appearances at the New York Strand. KAY FRANCIS, Monogram star who recently completed "Allotment Wives," left for New York Friday, preparatory to opening in Newark, Aug. 11 as the star of the stage play, "Windy Hill." MABEL DREW, of 20th Century-Fox's radio department, left Friday for northern Wisconsin, where she will spend the next two weeks vacationing. RAY MILLAND, Paramount star, left Friday by Pan American plane for England. He returns in about three weeks and will have a leading role in "Take This Woman." JACK KEEGAN, buyer and booker for United Detroit Theaters, associated with Paramount, returns to Detroit today. CHARLES DEESEN, home office assistant to J. J. Maloney, Central sales manager for M-C-M, has returned from a trip to Cleveland. Remove Switzerland from Blockade-Control-Permit (Continued from Page 1) permit, FEA announced Friday. Officials added, however, that a blockade control number will still be assigned on all validated licenses covering exports to Switzerland. Says Business Taxes Must Be Cut First Metro Sets Tradeshows For Two New Pictures M-G-M has set the national trade showings for two pictures, "WeekEnd at the Waldorf" for Aug. 10 in all exchange areas except Washington, where the screening will be held Aug. 13, and "Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in Hollywood" in all territories Aug. 21. "Week-End at the Wafdorf " has already been tradeshown in New York and Los Angeles and no additional screenings are scheduled. It will have its world premiere at the Music Hall. No opening date has yet been set. No release dates have been set on either picture. 'Happy' Labor Relationship A Necessity, Says Nelson West Coast Bureau of THE, FILM DAILY Hollywood — Speaking at a dinner given in his honor by Independent M. P. Producers Assn., President Donald M. Nelson of SIMPP, declared that the film industry to reach its potential must achieve "a happy relationship between the studios and labor, reduction of costs of operation, and distribution of opportunity for new people and new ideas." If, as he expects, the post-war Federal budget ranges from 22 to 25 billion annually, taxes may be dropped far enough to bring in just about the income needed for operating expenses. Members Reports that Warner Bros, theaters had been dues-paying but not active members of the two Allied units in Pennsylvania were denied at the week-end. Warner theaters, however, formerly contributed to the Allied unit in Ohio for legislative purposes.
